Job summary

ICF seeks a motivated Sales Intern to support its Business Development and Capture team within the Energy, Environment and Infrastructure group. This 10-week, full-time internship offers hands-on experience in government consulting, proposal development, and sales strategy, starting in June and ending in August.

The role is hybrid from Reston, VA or Arlington, VA, with pay at $23 per hour. Housing and relocation assistance are not provided at this time.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 30 completed college-level credit hours in public policy, writing, government, business or related field.

Responsibilities

  • Meeting support: take detailed notes in meetings and share summaries and action items.
  • Draft and design pitch decks, one-pagers, case studies and client-facing materials.
  • Create and update marketing and sales content (website, social posts, success stories, capability statements).
  • Conduct research on government and private sector targets, funding opportunities, and procurement forecasts.
  • Monitor competitors and program performance; support pipeline and CRM entry updates.
  • Collaborate with business development leads, proposal managers and technical experts to align messaging.

Job description

We are seeking a highly motivated Sales Intern to support our Business Development and Capture team. This role offers hands‑on experience in government consulting, proposal development, and sales strategy ICF’s Energy, Environment and Infrastructure group. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, proactive, and eager to learn how large‑scale federal and state‑funded programs are pursued and won. This is an entry‑level, 10‑week, full‑time internship expected to begin in June and end in August. The internship can hybrid from Reston, VA or Arlington, VA. Pay is expected to be $23 per hour. At this time, we are unable to provide housing nor relocation assistance for this position.

Responsibilities:
  • Meeting Support: Take detailed notes during internal and client‑facing meetings; distribute accurate and timely summaries/action items to relevant stakeholders.
  • Sales Materials: Assist in drafting and designing pitch decks, one‑pagers, case studies, and other client‑facing materials.
  • Content Creation: Develop and update marketing and sales content, including website and social media posts, success stories, and capability statements.
  • Research& Analysis: Conduct research on potential government and private sector targets, funding opportunities, and procurement forecasts.
  • Monitor competitors’ activities, market positioning, and program performance.
  • Pipeline Support: Help maintain CRM entries, track leads, and update pursuit status reports.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with business development leads, proposal managers, and technical experts to align messaging and strategy.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of various documents and materials for presentations
  • Special projects that support the division needs
Basic Qualifications:
  • By start date, a minimum of 30 completed college‑level credit hours in public policy, writing, government, business or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Interest in government contracting, consulting, environmental studies, energy, disaster recovery, or resilience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Ability to learn new things quickly.
  • Experience conducting research, organizing, and analyzing information.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, with advanced skill in SharePoint, Excel and PowerPoint.

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position. The pay range for this position based on full‑time employment is: $37,855.00 - $64,354.00 Reston, VA (VA30)
