Job summary

Genentech in Hillsboro, OR, is offering a 2027 Summer Intern - Quality Control. This intensive 6-month, full-time paid internship provides an opportunity to join HTO’s QC team as a business analyst to support continuous improvement initiatives through data collection and analysis, and development of dashboards to track KPIs.

The role is on-site in Hillsboro, with May/June start dates. A location-based stipend is provided.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in QC Improvement meetings and support Structured Problem Solving initiatives to implement solutions addressing root causes of performance challenges.
  • Attend daily cross-functional meetings to support QC teams in testing, environmental testing, maintenance, and validation activities.
  • Assist in designing, collecting, and analyzing process data to improve QC capacity and performance understanding.
  • Support development of tools and dashboards to visualize KPIs and identify trends.
  • Map QC processes and workflows to find waste and opportunities for improvement.
  • Support 5S and Lean initiatives in the laboratory, enhancing daily huddle tools and material flow.

The Position

2027 Summer Intern - Quality Control


Position Summary


The intern will have the opportunity to join HTO’s Quality Control Team as a business analyst to support continuous improvement initiatives focused on delivering performance and increased efficiency. The role will be responsible for working with cross functional teams to assist in the collection and analysis of process data, brainstorming innovative solutions, and supporting the design and implementation of improvements.


This internship position is located in Hillsboro, on-site.


The Opportunity


  • Actively participate in QC Improvement meetings and support Structured Problem Solving initiatives to help the team implement solutions that eliminate root cause contributing to performance challenges.
  • Attend daily cross functional meetings to support Quality Control teams to deliver on daily plans related to product testing, environmental testing, maintenance, and validation of equipment and methods.
  • Assist in the design, collection, and analysis of process data to enable improved understanding of QC capacity and performance.
  • Support developing tools and dashboards to visualize key performance indicators (KPIs) and identify trends.
  • Participate in mapping Quality Control processes and workflows to map processes, identify waste and improvement opportunities.
  • Support 5S and Lean initiatives in the laboratory including improving tools leveraged at daily huddles, material flow, and simplified processes.

Program Highlights


  • Intensive 6 months, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
  • Program start dates are in May/June (Summer).
  • A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Who You Are (Required)


Required Education: You meet one of the following criteria:


  • Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Bachelor's Degree (recent graduates not currently enrolled in a graduate program).
  • Must be pursuing a Master's Degree (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a Master's Degree. (recent graduates).
  • Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student).
  • Must have attained a PhD. (recent graduates).

Required Majors: Science, Engineering, Data Science or related field.


Required Skills


  • Experience in Process Development, Quality Control, Engineering, Manufacturing, or Technical Services.
  • Strong ability to collect, analyze and interpret data to identify trends and inefficiencies.
  • Strong problem solving mindset and demonstrated capability to solve problems leveraging a systematic approach with data.
  • Demonstrated understanding of project management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively document findings, present data, and collaborate with team members.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications


  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills.
  • Complements our culture and the standards that guide our daily behavior & decisions: Integrity, Courage, and Passion.
  • Understanding of Lean, Agile, or Toyota Production System is preferred.
  • Knowledge of cGMPs or equivalent regulations in a laboratory environment is a plus.
  • Experience in the pharmaceutical / biotech industry is a plus.

Relocation benefits are not available for this job posting.


The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location of Oregon is $25.00-$52.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
