Job summary

UL Solutions seeks a Finance/Accounting Intern in Northbrook, IL or Chicago, IL. The role is hybrid—3 days on-site at the Northbrook or Chicago office—with responsibilities spanning FP&A, Tax, Accounting, Sourcing, and more.

You will work on budgets, analyses, and financial reporting while gaining exposure to senior finance leaders and a 10–12 week project. The program includes networking and development opportunities to impact our business.

Qualifications

• Rising senior pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, business administration, or similar
• Ability to collect, analyze and interpret information from diverse sources
• Working knowledge of fundamentals of accounting
• Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and ERP exposure a plus

Responsibilities

• Extract data from financial systems and perform analyses to explain variances
• Assist in budgets, forecasts, and strategic plans with timely inputs
• Prepare asset, liability and equity account entries and reconcile accounts
• Research accounting standards or company strategies for special projects
• Support shared service processes (credit, billing, C&A, cash apps, AP) and improve efficiency
• Contribute to business case development, due diligence, and integrations for acquisitions
• Assist project managers in ROI improvement on capital investments
• Perform other duties as directed

This role is hybrid - 3 days a week on-site at the Northbrook or Chicago Office.

Our Finance/Accounting Internship has assignments that span the areas of Financial Planning & Analysis, Tax, Accounting, Sourcing, Business Services (Credit & collections, Accounts Payable), and Business Division Support.

As a Finance/Accounting intern you will work within one of the following teams:

• Financial Planning & Analysis

• Operational Finance

• Real Estate/Facilities Finance

• Sourcing

• Internal Audit

• Controllership

• GL Accounting

• Reporting/Consolidations

Specific Responsibilities:

• Extract data from financial systems and perform financial analyses to explain variances in financial performance of various organization segments, or to develop a business case for an investment project, or to assess the impact of changes to a business process.

• Participate in the development of budgets, forecasts, or strategic plans. This participation would include managing complete and timely inputs, compiling the data, summarizing it for management review and investigating variation from expected outcomes.

• Prepare asset, liability and capital account entries. Assist in the preparation of financial reports by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information and trends. Perform account reconciliations.

• Participate in the research and analysis of the impact of changes in accounting standards or company strategies or other special projects.

• Work on projects that will improve efficiency, improve service levels and lower the cost of operations for shared service processes such as credit, billing, collections, cash applications and accounts payable.

• Support business case development, due diligence and integration for company acquisitions.

• Assist project managers in developing business cases and utilizing practices that will improve ROI on key capital investments.

• Performs other duties as directed.

• Rising senior currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or similar area.

• Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze and interpret information from diverse sources.

• Working knowledge of the fundamentals of accounting through education or internship experience.

• Demonstrated ability to use MS Office suite (Excel, Word, Power Point).

• Experience working with business ERPs (Oracle, NetSuite, etc.) is a plus.

• Indefinite right to work in the United States.

What we offer:

Total Rewards: The hourly rate for this role is $25.00. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus to assist with housing, travel, and other relocation expenses, subject to terms and conditions. Your internship will consist of a 10-12 week long project, networking, learning & development opportunities, and will provide you with the opportunity to make a real world impact.
