Job summary

UL Solutions in Melville, NY, is seeking Engineering Interns to join our Engineered Materials team. The role is hybrid, with 3 days on-site each week, and a 10-12 week project focused on safety science.

As an intern you will explore Analytical Identification Review, Wire & Cable Certification Engineering, and Plastics Certification Engineering, gaining hands-on experience in materials science and certification processes.

Qualifications

• Rising senior pursuing an undergraduate degree in Materials Science / Biochem / Electrical / Mechanical / Chemistry or related major.
• Highly motivated self-starter.
• Demonstrated ability to work in a results-oriented, challenging environment.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Must have indefinite right to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

• Apply chemistry and materials science knowledge to review analytical laboratory data and support material identification.
• Learn certification engineering for wire & cable, reviewing product constructions and test requirements.
• Learn plastics certification engineering and analyze material properties to support surveillance and compliance.

Education

This role is hybrid - 3 days a week on-site.

Engineered Materials (EM)

As an Intern on the Engineered Materials Team, you will work within one of the following areas.

• Analytical Identification Review: Apply chemistry and materials science knowledge to review and interpret analytical laboratory data, compare results with established material information, and support material identification and ongoing surveillance of certified materials and products.

• Wire & Cable Certification Engineering: Learn how wire and cable products are evaluated and maintained under certification by reviewing product constructions and materials, determining applicable evaluation and test requirements, analyzing laboratory results, and supporting ongoing surveillance activities to help confirm continued compliance.

• Plastics Certification Engineering: Learn how polymeric materials are evaluated and maintained under certification by reviewing material properties and technical documentation, determining appropriate evaluation and test requirements, analyzing laboratory results, and supporting ongoing surveillance activities to help confirm continued compliance.

Total Rewards: The hourly rate for this role is $27.00. Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign-on bonus to assist with housing, travel, and other relocation expenses, subject to terms and conditions.
