Job summary

Berkley's Preferred Employers Insurance Company invites applications for the 2027 Summer Intern program in San Diego, CA. The internship provides hands-on exposure across underwriting, claims, and sales/marketing, with mentorship and professional development throughout.

Interns rotate among departments, shadow experts, and participate in team meetings. A final capstone presentation will summarize key learnings and contributions, culminating in meaningful project work and networking opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Participate in a structured internship program with exposure to Underwriting, Claims, and Sales/Marketing.
• Shadow team members, including broker calls and claim reviews, to understand day-to-day operations.
• Attend and participate in team meetings during each rotation.
• Move into an Underwriting or Claims assignment based on performance and interests.
• Complete department-specific assignments as directed by management.
• Meet with mentors and managers for guidance and feedback.
• Take part in intern cohort activities, huddles, teamwork projects, and social/volunteer events.
• Assist in internal communications or social media content with Marketing guidance.
• Deliver a final capstone presentation summarizing learnings and contributions.

The 2027 Summer Intern will participate in a structured internship program that provides hands-on, cross-functional exposure to Preferred Employers Insurance's core insurance operations. Interns rotate through multiple departments, complete meaningful project work, and receive mentorship and professional development throughout the program.

• Rotate through Underwriting, Claims, and Sales/Marketing to gain exposure to each function.
• Shadow team members, including broker calls and claim reviews, to understand day-to-day operations across departments.
• Attend and actively participate in team meetings during each rotation.
• Move into a focused Underwriting or Claims assignment based on performance, interests, and business needs.
• Complete meaningful department-specific assignments as directed by management.
• Meet regularly with an assigned mentor for career guidance and with a manager for coaching and performance feedback.
• Participate in intern cohort activities, including weekly huddles, collaborative group projects, and social or volunteer events.
• Contribute to internal communications or social media content under the guidance of the Marketing team, as applicable.
• Prepare and deliver a final capstone presentation summarizing key learnings and contributions.

• Relevant coursework in business, risk management, insurance, or a related field preferred.

Education Requirement

• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program at an accredited university or community college, preferably entering junior or senior year.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Preferred areas of study include Risk Management & Insurance, Business Administration, Economics, Criminal Justice, Psychology, Communications, or a related field; all majors are encouraged to apply.

• Base Salary Range: $20 - $24
