Job summary

Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. offers a 2027 Summer Engineering Internship onsite in Prescott, AZ. This internship provides exposure to CNC milling/turning, PLC programming, GD&T, Kaizen, and lean manufacturing principles, with mentorship on a summer project designed for production integration.

Housing stipend and weekly pay are included, along with profit sharing opportunities for interns. You will work with engineers on diverse tasks, attend design reviews, and gain hands-on experience across

Qualifications

  • Sophomore year completed and enrolled in an accredited engineering degree program.
  • Relocation to one Ruger facility for the duration of the internship.
  • Able to work 40+ hours per week.
  • CAD or Modeling experience beneficial but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Support a manufacturing environment with exposure to modern manufacturing processes.
  • Work on internship projects with a mentor and participate in design reviews.
  • Shadow production teams, plan product flow, and contribute to process improvements.
  • Prepare a final presentation summarizing internship project results.
  • Collaborate with engineers on new product development meetings.

Our interns work directly with a mentor on one of our manufacturing lines. You will be assigned a “summer project” at the beginning of your internship. This project is intended to give you the opportunity to design and build something that will be implemented into the production line. Progress will be monitored by your mentor and other engineers in design review settings. Portions of this project are to be completed individually as well as with other Ruger employees.Examples of past intern projects are: inline gages used in production, automatic part marking machine for part traceability in production, automatic oiler used for rust prevention in assembly, tool cost savings for a product line, laser marking station for gages in the facility.Interns will also spend some days shadowing their mentor in supporting production, attending design reviews, new product development meetings, interacting with outside suppliers, planning product flow and improvements to manufacturing.You will also have the opportunity to work directly with our production associates to learn how our manufacturing method works in real time. As an intern or engineer we try to cultivate a “Servant Leader” atmosphere as our role is to solve problems and provide solutions to the manufacturing line associates to make their job function smoothly.Lastly, at the end of your internship, you will have the chance to practice your communication skills by creating a presentation that will be delivered in a group setting to engineering and management.Skills that can set you apart from the competition but not required:Solidworks ProficiencyMastercam or similar CAM softwareCNC Machining ExperienceProcess Capability StudiesTechnical WritingPrior Production ExperienceMetrology ExperienceMinimum Requirements:Sophomore year completedEnrolled in an Accredited Engineering Degree ProgramTemporarily relocate to one of the three Ruger facilities for the duration of the internshipAbility to work 40+ hours per weekAny CAD or Modeling experienceBenefits:Competitive hourly rate paid on a weekly basis, plus (1.5x rate) overtime as needed.A housing stipend paid at the beginning of your internship.Holiday pay and a portion of the company’s profit-sharing program for your time employed at RugerEligible to purchase one (1) Ruger firearm of their choice at employee pricing at the successful completion of the internship.
