Job summary

The Related Companies and its New York team seek a Summer Associate to assist in affordable real estate acquisitions, development, and financial analysis. The role covers underwriting, due diligence, site acquisition, and resident engagement as part of a hands-on program with mentorship.

Interns will prepare detailed financial analyses and models, assist with tax-exempt bond and LIHTC applications, track rehab progress, and support asset management of existing properties.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate junior with expected graduation between Dec 2027 and Spring 2028
• Pursuing a BA/BS in Finance, Real Estate Finance or Real Estate Development
• Strong quantitative and analytical skills; proficient in Excel
• Excellent communication in writing and speaking
• Self-starter with proactive approach to tasks and challenges

Responsibilities

The Summer Associate will support the team and be involved in all aspects of affordable real estate acquisitions and development including financial analysis and modeling, site acquisition, due diligence, legal document review and negotiation, and community and resident engagement. The Associate will prepare detailed financial analyses and models including those for transaction underwriting and will provide key takeaways to business unit s.

• Perform financial underwriting analysis and due diligence for new affordable acquisition investment opportunities
• Prepare tax exempt bond and low-income housing tax credit applications for live deals
• Track rehab progress on ongoing process
• Conduct site visits and assist with asset management of existing portfolio
• Monitor construction costs, budgeting, and the timeline of deliverables

Compensation

• The hourly compensation for this position is $45

Qualifications

• Current undergraduate junior with a target graduation date between December 2027- Spring 2028
• A strong passion for real estate development, specifically affordable preservation
• Excellent quantitative and analytical skills; expertise with excel
• Exhibits a strong understanding of technical skills and job specific knowledge
• Demonstrates clear and concise communication skills, both verbally and in writing
• Self-Starter with a proactive approach to tackling tasks and challenges
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to new challenged in a dynamic environment
• Actively pursuing a bachelor's degree in Finance, Real Estate Finance or Real Estate Development
