Job summary

Wallace Design Collective in Rogers, AR is seeking a Structural Summer Intern to join our multidisciplinary team. You’ll work on real commercial, educational, healthcare, and residential projects across the country, gaining hands-on experience with structural analysis, modeling, and documentation under licensed engineers.

You'll use RAM Structural System, RISA-3D, ETABS, and Revit to support design tasks, learn code application from IBC and ASCE standards, and participate in team learning

Qualifications

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural concentration.
• Coursework in structural analysis and basic material design; familiarity with Revit or AutoCAD is a plus.
• Strong analytical problem-solving, proactive in learning, detail-oriented and a team player.

Responsibilities

• Structural modeling and analysis: assist in generating model geometry and gravity/lateral load analyses using RAM, RISA-3D or ETABS.
• BIM and documentation: draft and model structural components (steel, concrete, masonry, wood) in Revit.
• Engineering calculations: assist with design calculations under licensed PE/SE guidance.
• Code and load application: apply IBC/ASCE codes to wind, seismic, snow and dead/live loads.
• Collaboration and learning: participate in intern sessions and project team meetings.

As an intern, you won't spend your summer doing busywork—you’ll be integrated directly into active project teams, tackling real structural engineering challenges alongside seasoned professionals.

As a Structural Summer Intern, you will work side-by-side with our structural engineering team on real commercial, educational, healthcare, and residential projects across the country. You will get hands-on experience using industry-standard analysis and modeling software, assisting in structural design calculations, and learning the practical mechanics of how buildings go from concepts on paper to standing structures.

Hourly Rate: $18.25 - $25.00 per hour

Requirements

What You’ll Do

Structural Modeling & Analysis: Assist in generating structural model geometry, gravity load, and lateral load analyses using software such as RAM Structural System, RISA-3D, or ETABS.

BIM & Documentation: Collaborate with project teams to draft and model structural components (steel, concrete, masonry, and wood) in Revit.

Engineering Calculations: Perform foundational design calculations for beams, columns, foundations, and connections under the guidance of licensed Professional Engineers (PE/SE).

Code & Load Application: Gain practical experience interpreting building codes (IBC, ASCE 7, ACI, AISC, NDS) to determine wind, seismic, snow, and dead/live loads.

Collaboration & Learning: Participate in intern learning sessions, project team meetings, and potential job site visits to observe construction progress firsthand.

What We’re Looking For

Education: Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering with a structural concentration (typically completed sophomore or junior year by summer).

Technical Skills: coursework completed in structural analysis and basic material design (Steel, Concrete, Wood, or Masonry). Familiarity with Revit, AutoCAD, or structural design software is a plus.

Mindset: Strong analytical problem-solving skills, eager to learn, proactive in asking questions, and detail-oriented.

Communication: Clear written and verbal communication skills with a team-first attitude.
