Job summary

STX Commodities in New York runs an Environmental Commodities Sales & Trading Rotational Program for current undergraduates and masters students, offering exposure across Product, Client Strategy and Trade Operations. You’ll gain hands-on experience through desk rotations, analytics, and mentorship that supports personal and professional growth.

The one-year program begins September 2027, with a potential full-time desk placement in Fall 2028.

Qualifications

• Current Undergraduate or Masters’ students with a graduation date in Spring/Summer 2027.
• Authorization to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
• Advanced in Microsoft Excel, and any other analytical tools is preferred.
• Demonstrated interest in sustainable energy and/or environmental commodities.
• Analytical ability to synthesize data, reports, and other information in a presentable format.
• Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and critical thinking skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
• GPA of 3.3 or above.

Responsibilities

• Build an understanding of the full-cycle trading process by rotating on at least one desk.
• Support Product Team – Renewable Natural Gas, Renewable Energy Credits, Biofuels.
• Support Client Strategy Team – Strive & Climate Action Consulting, Business Development.
• Support Operational Trade Operations and research analytics; track macro trends.
• Create workflow automations and organize datasets to streamline processes.
• Assist in preparing pitch decks, communications, and RFPs for clients.

About The Program

Our Environmental Commodities Sales & Trading Rotational Program is thoughtfully designed for those with a keen interest in the intersection of renewable energy and financial services. This one-year program offers first-hand experience across multiple departments, providing program participants with a comprehensive understanding of our business.

In addition to the desk exposure, the Rotational Program includes curated technical and soft skills trainings, dedicated mentorship for personal and professional development, as well as social events to connect with colleagues across the organization.

The program begins September 2027 and is intended to provide successful participants with a full-time desk placement at the end of the program in Fall 2028.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Build an understanding of the full-cycle trading process from its inception to execution by rotating on at least one:
• Product Team – Renewable Natural Gas, Renewable Energy Credits, Biofuels
• Client Strategy Team - Strive & Climate Action Consulting, Business Development
• Operational Support Team – Trade Operations
• Support the different desks with integral research and analytics, staying up to date on macroeconomic events and market trends to influence decision-making
• Apply new perspectives to help streamline internal processes by creating workflow automations and organizing datasets
• Assist in the preparation of pitch decks, communications, and RFPs for prospective clients

KEY REQUIREMENTS

• Current Undergraduate or Masters’ students with a graduation date in Spring/Summer 2027

Preferred Requirements

• Pursuing a degree in Finance, Technology, Business, Environmental Sciences or other related field
• Experience with SQL and VBA

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

The base salary range for this position is $85,000- $95,000 based on several objective factors such as relevant experience, holistic skillset, and applicable licenses and certifications. The candidate may also be eligible for discretionary compensation as determined annually within the company fiscal year.
