Job summary

Hanson Professional Services, Inc. in Illinois is seeking a Roadway Engineering intern to support design and analysis for rural and urban roadways, freeways and interstates. You will prepare plans, specifications, and cost estimates under supervision while gathering data for reports and studies.

The role emphasizes development of technical skills in MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and AutoCAD/Civil 3D, strong communication, and collaboration within a professional engineering team.

Qualifications

• Interns must be actively enrolled in an ABET-accredited civil engineering program.
• The ideal candidate will have completed their sophomore year and be enrolled in a 4-year college or university.
• Proficiency with MicroStation/OpenRoads or AutoCAD/Civil3D is used in this work.

Responsibilities

• Preparing plans, designs, specifications, and cost estimates.
• Gathering and/or providing data for the preparation of engineering or environmental reports and studies.
• Performing and/or reviewing calculations or reports such as those related to geometrics, transportation engineering, and quantities.
• Utilizing engineering software packages such as MicroStation/OpenRoads Designer and/or AutoCad/Civil3D
• Conducting field investigations and/or survey assistance to gather information.
• Documenting and/or observing construction operations.
• Performing related duties such as writing memoranda, letters, or general reports; collecting and correlating engineering data; maintaining records; and attending meetings.

Our Roadway Engineering discipline includes Civil Engineers who plan, design, and prepare construction documents for rural and urban roadways, freeways, and interstates for local, state, and private clients. Design includes vertical and horizontal alignments, geometric design, intersections and interchanges, roadside safety, pedestrian and bicycle accommodations, pavement marking and signage, utility coordination, erosion control, and construction staging. Software including MicroStation with OpenRoads/Geopak or AutoCAD with Civil3D are often used for this work, which may include 3D modeling of the existing and proposed improvements.

Key Responsibilities: Roadway Engineering interns will be expected to perform the following key responsibilities with supervision and assistance from a Hanson Professional Engineer:

The hourly range for this position is $21 - $26 per hour for undergraduates.

$30 - $40 per hour for postgraduates.
