Job summary

A-C Electric Company offers a 10-week Occupational Safety Summer Internship to students passionate about safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship in the electrical construction industry. You will work with EHS professionals on inspections, audits, and environmental checks, gaining hands-on experience and professional development.

Pay range is $19.00/hr–$24.00/hr. Requires full-time availability and relocation to Bakersfield or Fresno, CA, with mentorship on incidents, JHAs, and safety

Qualifications

• Full-time 40 hours/week for 10 weeks during Summer 2027
• Enrolled student with expected graduation on or before August 2029
• GPA requirements: at least 3.0 in major or 2.75 overall
• Strong organizational and collaboration skills demonstrated through leadership positions
• Interest and enthusiasm in electrical engineering and construction

Responsibilities

• Assist EHS staff in conducting safety inspections at active electrical construction sites
• Help ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, environmental requirements, and safety policies
• Collect, track, and analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement
• Support incident investigations, including root cause analysis and corrective action planning
• Participate in review and preparation of Job Safety Plans, Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs), and Safety Inspection Reports
• Assist in development and delivery of employee safety training and toolbox talks
• Review and maintain environmental compliance records (hazardous materials handling, waste disposal)
• Participate in Book Club assignments to build leadership and communication skills
• Contribute to a LEAN project to improve safety or environmental processes

Description

Mission

The A-C Electric Company Internship Experience Program offers a hands-on, field and office-based learning opportunity for students passionate about safety, compliance, and environmental stewardship in the electrical construction industry.

Over the course of this 10-week summer program, you will work directly with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) professionals to learn how safety culture is built, maintained, and continuously improved across our projects. You’ll gain experience in job site inspections, safety audits, environmental compliance checks, and employee safety training support, all while participating in professional development and networking activities.

About You:

Desired Majors: Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering w/ a safety or environmental focus

Key Responsibilities:

Over the course of our 10-week internship experience you will have the opportunity to:

Basic Qualifications (Required Skill/Experience):

• Ability to work full-time (40 hours/week) for 10 weeks during Summer 2027
• Enrolled student attending a college or university with an expected graduation on or before August 2029

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

• We’re looking for students who have shown solid academic performance — at least a 3.0 GPA in upper-division courses for your major, or a 2.75 GPA overall.
• Exceptional organizational and collaboration skills as demonstrated through leadership positions on teams and/or in student or civic organizations.
• Strong technical experiences as demonstrated through technical projects, research, or engineering internships.
• Exceptional communication skills, interest, and enthusiasm related to electrical engineering and/or construction.

Relocation:

Must be able to relocate to Bakersfield, CA or Fresno, CA for the entirety of the internship.

Pay range: Pay Range: $19.00/hr. - $24.00/hr. Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
