Job description

The Trade Desk is a global technology company and the world’s leading independent platform for digital advertising, with nearly 4,000 employees across more than 30 offices. Our technology helps advertisers reach the right audiences across the open internet — from streaming TV and podcasts to mobile apps, news, and more. Advertising powers the content people love. By making it more transparent, effective, and responsible, we help support trusted journalism, quality entertainment, and creators worldwide. The world’s brands and agencies rely on us to reach their customers and grow their businesses responsibly. The scale of our platform brings unique technical challenges — from processing massive datasets in real time to building systems that operate reliably on a global scale. When you work here, your impact is worldwide. We welcome diverse perspectives, encourage curiosity, and build teams that learn from one another. If you’re driven to solve meaningful challenges, we’d love to meet you.

Please apply a single time for one location in North America for the Software Engineer Intern position. We will consider you for all locations with a single application.

The Trade Desk is a global technology company with a mission to create a better, more open internet for everyone through principled, intelligent advertising. Handling over 1 trillion queries per day, our platform operates at an unprecedented scale. We have also built something even stronger and more valuable: an award‑winning culture based on trust, ownership, empathy, and collaboration. We value the unique experiences and perspectives that each person brings to The Trade Desk, and we are committed to fostering inclusive spaces where everyone can bring their authentic selves to work every day.

Do you have a passion for solving hard problems at scale? Are you eager to join a dynamic, globally‑connected team where your contributions will make a meaningful difference in building a better media ecosystem? Come and see why Fortune magazine consistently ranks The Trade Desk among the best small‑to‑medium‑sized workplaces globally.

What you’ll do:

  • Own and ship a meaningful project, end‑to‑end. We believe strongly in ownership at The Trade Desk, and we are committed to you having something substantial to show for your time here that will make a positive impact for the team.
  • Receive one‑on‑one mentorship from an experienced software engineer.
  • Collaborate with a globally connected team of engineers, interns & other teams and departments in cities across the world.
  • Work with new technologies across a wide spectrum of computer science, including distributed systems, petabyte‑scale data processing, machine learning/AI, and UI/UX.

You might be a great fit for a Software Engineer internship at The Trade Desk if you:

  • Are fluent in one or more modern object‑oriented programming languages.
  • Have a firm grasp on basic data structures and algorithmic techniques.
  • Are a quick and self‑directed learner. We provide close support and mentorship, but you will have ownership over the design, plan, and implementation of what you build.
  • Are enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree program.
  • Are expected to graduate between Autumn 2027 and Summer 2028.
  • You need to be available to work 3 days in person in the office (Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday).

Do you want to work on a meaningful and impactful project that makes a difference? Are you eager to innovate? Do you want unique, large‑scale, and highly complex challenges involving technology that is brand‑new to you? What and how you can contribute is what’s important to us. Our consideration is not limited by the kind of education you have or the specific technologies you have experience with. We care about having good people to pitch in. Our culture is creative, energetic, and collaborative. Those aren’t perks – those are just the way we do business.

The Trade Desk does not accept unsolicited resumes from search firm recruiters. Fees will not be paid in the event a candidate submitted by a recruiter without an agreement in place is hired; such resumes will be deemed the sole property of The Trade Desk. The actual amount may differ based on non‑discriminatory factors such as experience, knowledge, skills, and location. All employees may be eligible to become The Trade Desk shareholders through eligibility for stock‑based compensation grants, which are awarded to employees based on company and individual performance.
