Job summary

Textron Aviation in Wichita, KS, is offering a 2027 Internship in Industrial Engineering. You will gain hands-on experience with data analysis, process improvements, and cost reduction on real projects alongside experienced professionals.

The 10-week on-site program runs ~40 hours per week. You’ll learn KPI development, SAP Capacity Planning, value stream mapping, and other tools to drive process improvements and measurable value.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, MET, Mechanical Engineering, Robotics Technology, or related fields.

Responsibilities

• Assist with providing timely and relevant metrics to Plant Managers and Director.
• Identify production flow issues from work sequencing, balancing, tooling/equipment constraints, and manpower allocation/training.
• Assist with creation and automated delivery of KPIs such as Efficiency, DCI & Overtime.
• Apply standard hours using models and tools to ensure time standards for new parts/assemblies.
• Analyze and recommend improvements to production facility arrangements for capacity and flow.
• Analyze and solve production flow issues stemming from sequencing and balance of tasks.
• Gather, analyze, and summarize production data for continuous improvement opportunities.
• Assist with SAP Capacity Planning configuration settings.
• Assist in the preparation of cost development models.
• Value stream mapping, network mapping and gap analysis.
• Implement methods to improve worker efficiency and reduce waste of materials and utilities.

JOB SUMMARY:

In this position, interns will utilize and develop their basic knowledge of data/metric analysis with a strategic drive to create customer value through process improvements, cost reduction and product improvement. This opportunity enables an individual to grow and innovate while being able to experience a cross‑functional work environment and implement new technologies in building world‑class aircraft.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Assist with providing timely and relevant metrics to Plant Managers and Director

• Active participation in identifying production flow issues stemming from work sequencing, task/line balancing, tooling/equipment constraints, and manpower allocation/training

• Assist with creation and automated delivery of KPIs such as Efficiency, DCI & Overtime.

• Application of standard hours through use of appropriate models, tools and methods to assure time standards are appropriately applied to produce new parts/assemblies

• Analyze and makes recommendations regarding production facility arrangements for improvements to production capacity, manufacturing flow, new model incorporation, and strategic work transitions

• Analyze and solve production flow issues stemming from sequence of work, balance of tasks, tooling/equipment constraints, and manpower allocation/training

• Gather, analyze, and summarizes production process data for their use in valuing and prioritizing process continuous improvement opportunities

• Assist with work center configuration settings for SAP Capacity Planning

• Assist in the preparation of cost development model

• Value stream mapping, network mapping and associated gap analysis

• Implement methods for improving worker efficiency and reducing waste of materials and utilities such as restructuring job duties, reorganizing workflow, relocating workstations and equipment, and purchase of equipment.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

Pursuing a Bachelor of Science degree in one of the following:

• Manufacturing Engineering

• Industrial Engineering

• Manufacturing Engineering Technology (MET)

• Mechanical Engineering

• Robotics Technology

• Other related fields

EXPERIENCE:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills

• Collaborates and easily gets along in team‑based environments

• Action‑oriented and ability to shift processes and priorities quickly

• Excellent organizational skills

• Computer Proficiency (MS Office, CAD, etc.)

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F‑1 students and J‑1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late‑May to early‑August lasting 10 weeks. Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
