Job summary
Textron is offering a 2027 Internship - Engineer in Research & Development in Wichita, Kansas. You will gain hands-on experience by developing and redesigning products, and performing research and testing on concepts alongside seasoned engineers.
The internship is full-time for 10 weeks, pays a stipend, and emphasizes mentorship, training, and real project work. You will work onsite with CATIA and other design tools to deliver tangible results.
Qualifications
- Pursuing an engineering or related technical degree and able to work onsite in Wichita.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
- Familiarity with CAD tools, especially CATIA, is a plus.

Research & Development engineers, develop new products, redesign existing products, and perform research and testing on product concepts. R&D engineers work in a collaborative environment that includes other engineers, marketing professionals, and manufacturers. R&D engineers assignments are executed under the direction of the R&D Supervisor/Manager with an emphasis on meeting and/or exceeding customer requirements.
- R&D engineers work many different software programs; such as, Catia V5, V6 and other related.
- Manages the planning, development, and execution of important engineering projects.
- Coordinates with both internal customers as well as multiple outside suppliers to ensure Design for Manufacturability, cost, and schedule goals are met.
- Uses advanced engineering principles and problem-solving capabilities to provide technical solutions for a wide range of tasks.
- Design and build prototypes of system components for testing.
- Develop required test procedures and coordinate testing with other applicable groups.
- Works well in a cross-functional and diverse team environment
- Ability to successfully navigate through ambiguity.
- Acts as liaison with representatives outside of the assigned group/area.
- Drives improvements to daily processes and ensures all work meets or exceeds customer requirements.
- Maintains a current knowledge of developments in the field of specialty and/or other related aircraft fields in order to recommend innovations to improve quality and effectiveness of company products and processes.

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.
Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-May to early-August lasting 10 weeks.
Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
