Textron Aviation is offering a 2027 Internship in Defense and Special Missions Airframe Design Engineering. Interns work under senior engineers on conceptualizing, developing, certifying, and supporting Beechcraft aircraft systems across interiors and mechanical subsystems.

Responsibilities include design of primary/secondary structures, subsystems integration, and problem solving with cross-functional teams. On-site, full-time summer program for 10 weeks.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Basic knowledge of CATIA V5.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience applying technical theories and troubleshooting in aircraft structural design.

Responsibilities

  • Complete new or modified designs of primary/secondary structure and control surfaces (layouts, parts, assemblies, drawings).
  • Involvement in military applications as part of the internship tasks.
  • Assist in provisioning and integration of aircraft subsystems (Mechanical, Propulsion, Electrical/Avionics, Interiors).
  • Investigate production and field issues using root-cause analysis and corrective actions.
  • Conduct trade studies to assess feasibility of new or modified equipment.

Description

JOB SUMMARY:

Develop innovative engineering solutions for the complete product life cycle for the Beechcraft Defense Company aircraft product lines. Under the guidance of senior level engineers, perform basic engineering responsibilities associated with conceptualizing, researching, developing, certifying, and supporting the assigned product platform as it relates to engineering aspects of primary and secondary structural components. Also assigned tasks associated with interiors and mechanical systems engineering. Work closely with Technical Engineering, Manufacturing, Planning, Supply Chain, and Quality Assurance to achieve desired design requirement objectives.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Complete either new design or modify existing design of primary and secondary structure and control surfaces (layouts, detail parts, assemblies, installation drawings)
  • Activities will include involvement in Military applications
  • Responsible for provisioning for and integration of aircraft subsystems such as Mechanical Systems, Propulsion System, Electrical/Avionics Systems, and Interiors
  • Investigate and resolve production and field issues as identified both through the internal quality system and customer feedback using a systematic approach to root cause analysis and corrective actions
  • Conduct trade studies and make recommendations to determine feasibility of designing new equipment or modifying existing equipment
Qualifications
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in:

  • Aerospace/Aeronautical Engineering
  • Mechanical Engineering
QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Basic knowledge of CATIA V5
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Project, and PowerPoint
  • Experience in applying technical theories, troubleshooting techniques, and concepts related to aircraft structural design

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F-1 students and J-1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late-March to early-August lasting 10 weeks.

Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
