Job summary

Textron Inc. offers a 2027 Aerodynamics Engineer Internship where you will analyze and develop aerodynamic solutions for multiple aircraft programs.

You will work with wind tunnel data, flight test results, and analytic models to support design and certification activities. You will collaborate with design, flight test, and propulsion teams while gaining hands-on experience and mentorship from experienced engineers during the 10‑week program.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or other relative technical field
  • Teamwork adaptable to the work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Excel and Word
  • Programming in C/C++, Visual Basic, FORTRAN and Python preferred
  • Experience collecting and reducing wind tunnel data
  • Experience developing theoretical aerodynamic models
  • Experience with simulation tools for trajectory and performance analysis

Responsibilities

  • Perform aerodynamic analysis and development for aircraft across Textron product lines
  • Develop design, analysis, and simulation models using in-house and commercial tools
  • Contribute to design verification and certification activities
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with design, flight test, and certification teams
  • Apply 14 CFR Part 23 and 25 regulations to analyses and documentation

Description
Why This Internship

As an intern with Textron, you’ll gain hands‑on experience while exploring your interests and building new skills. You’ll be supported and challenged to contribute in meaningful ways – working on real projects alongside experienced professionals to prepare for future success.

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the aerodynamic analysis and development of new and derivative aircraft across the Company product line using analytic data, wind tunnel data, and flight test data.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • The variety of tasks within the Aerodynamics organization can include internal and external aerodynamic analysis, aerodynamic design, prediction of aircraft loads, performance, and handling qualities.
  • Will involve the development of design, analysis, and simulation models and tools using a variety of in house, and commercial, computational tools as well as FORTRAN, MATLAB, C , Python and MATHCAD codes on LINUX workstations and PCs.
  • Contribute to the development and certification of significant engineering projects.
  • Participate in the entire development process, from early advanced design efforts to final certification activity.
  • Collaborate with other engineering disciplines such as Advanced Design, Mass Properties, Flight Controls, Propulsion, Mechanical Systems, Engineering Flight Test, Stress, and Fatigue.
  • Apply knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 and Part 25 regulations to ensure all critical design and certification analyses have been performed.
  • Document results in memos and certification reports for transmittal to internal customers and global certification authorities.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/ EXPERIENCE:

Pursuing a bachelor’s or master's degree in Aerospace Engineering or other relative technical field

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Ability to work well with teams adaptable to the work environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word
  • Ability to program in a structured language. Experience with C/C , Visual Basic, FORTRAN and Python is highly desirable
  • Experience with the collection and reduction of wind tunnel data
  • Experience with the development of theoretical aerodynamic models
  • Experience with the use of simulation tools to perform trajectory analysis, calculation of aircraft performance, or determining aircraft handling characteristics

Applicants must be authorized to work lawfully in the U.S. for Textron Aviation at the time of making application, and visa sponsorship is not available for this position, including for F‑1 students and J‑1 exchange visitors who will need employment sponsorship.

Summer internships are 40 hours per week typically from late‑May to early‑August lasting 10 weeks.

Candidates must be able to work onsite for the entirety of the internship program unless approved otherwise by the hiring manager.
