Job summary

Symetra invites applications for a summer Internal Audit Intern. This fully remote 12-week program offers hands-on experience supporting audit teams, testing internal controls, and learning the finance and insurance operations of a national financial services company.

You will assist with planning, documentation, and administrative tasks while developing a strong understanding of SOX controls, risk assessment, and audit methodologies in a supportive, mentoring environment.

Qualifications

• Must be enrolled in an undergraduate program pursuing a finance, accounting, or related degree with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
• Excellent communication and presentation skills.
• Analytical mindset with attention to detail.
• Strong computer skills, especially Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

Responsibilities

• Support internal audit engagement teams by assisting with planning for and auditing processes and controls in accounting, finance, IT and operations.
• Assist with testing of internal controls over financial reporting (SOX).
• Assist the lead auditor with planning, documentation organization, meeting scheduling and other audit-related admin tasks.
• Develop an understanding of Symetra's operations and insurance/financial services practices.
• Present regular status updates and communicate findings to the audit team.

Symetra's Internship Program for Summer 2027 is entirely remote - all interns will learn and work in a virtual setting. The internship duration is 12 weeks. To accommodate varying academic calendars, we offer two internship sessions, with start dates in May and June, allowing students on different semester schedules to participate. Applicants will be able to indicate their preferred session during the application process.We are seeking university students who are interested in joining the Symetra Internal Audit team as a summer intern.
