Northrop Grumman is seeking Survivability Engineers for an internship at El Segundo, CA and San Diego, CA. Interns will gain exposure to surviving systems, learn from engineers, and contribute to design, analysis, and testing across RF/IR/VIS spectrums.

Qualified students must be enrolled full-time and graduate after Aug 2027, major in a STEM field, and be able to work 40 hours weekly for 10 weeks in Summer 2027; U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a government clearance are required.

Qualifications

  • Implementing and manipulating analytical codes; building and analyzing virtual models, optimizing designs, troubleshooting issues, and performing trend analysis.
  • Designing, planning, and executing RCS/RF tests (Tier 0-3).
  • Analyzing test results and delivering recommendations on materials and capabilities.
  • Coordinating with suppliers/vendors on material, technology, and equipment design and test.

Northrop Grumman is seeking Survivability Engineers for an internship experience. The Aeronautics Systems Sector has Survivability internship opportunities in El Segundo, CA and San Diego, CA. As an Intern, the qualified candidate will gain exposure and insight into developing, delivering, and maintaining Survivable systems. The Intern will apply fundamental understanding of relevant physics and scientific principles from the classroom, as they learn what it means to be low observable from clean-sheet design through sustainment. During the summer, the qualified candidate may support one or more of the sub-disciplines within Survivability: Component- and system-level signature design, modeling, and analysis in the electromagnetic (EM) / radio frequency (RF), infrared (IR), visual (VIS) and/or acoustic spectrums RF measurement / testing (Tiers 0-3), with post-test data analysis Liaison engineering, supporting technicians with job inspections, defect disposition and guidance, and all-up system assessments Material & Process development, testing, and application Mission Systems design, integration and test

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinating with designers and supportability / maintainability engineers to ensure component and system compliance with Survivability requirements
  • Developing and integrating advanced technology to reduce system detectability
  • Implementing and manipulating analytical codes; building and analyzing virtual models, optimizing designs, troubleshooting issues, and performing trend analysis
  • Designing, planning, and executing RCS/RF tests (Tier 0-3), to include determining test requirements, selecting testing methods and measurements, operating and maintaining equipment, executing setup and test events, and delivering pre-/post-test reports
  • Analyzing component and system test results and delivering recommendations on materials, capabilities, and other aspects of Survivability performance
  • Coordinating with suppliers / vendors on material, technology, and equipment design, delivery, implementation and test, to include developing requirements, writing SOWs, providing engineering oversight, and tracking / reporting performance
Basic Qualifications
  • Be enrolled full-time and pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree from an accredited college/university AND graduating after August 2027.
  • Be majoring in Electrical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or other related STEM degree.
  • Be available to work full-time (40 hours per week) for at least 10 weeks during Summer 2027.
  • Be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite) as well as Program Special access within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company to meet its business needs (U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Understanding of, or experience in, one or more of the Survivability sub-disciplines, across one or more of the spectrums (RF, IR, Visual, Acoustic), including design and analysis, measurement, integration and test, mission system integration, and liaison engineering
  • Experience working across engineering disciplines to establish requirements and develop a balanced design that meets the customer’s mission objectives
  • Experience in one or more CAD tools (CATIA, NX, etc.)
  • Programming / scripting experience in Python, C/C++, Matlab, or other language
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Active U.S. Government Secret security clearance (or higher)
  • Have an overall cumulative GPA of 3.25/4.0 or higher.

Intern Pay Range : Undergraduate (Including graduating students planning on attending/enrolled in a full-time Master’s program for Fall 2027): $21.50 - $39.00/hour Master’s: $30.50 - $48.00/hour

At Northrop Grumman, our internship pay rates are standardized and take into account three main factors: the anticipated graduation date of the individual, the cost of labor of the geographic location, and whether the internship is considered technical or administrative.

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
