Job summary

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems seeks an Engineer/Principal Engineer - Survivability to join our team. This position can be located in Palmdale, San Diego or El Segundo, California, with travel up to 25%.

You will support sub-disciplines across EM, IR, VIS, and acoustic spectra and collaborate with design, testing, and supplier teams. Required are a STEM degree with experience or advanced degrees, deep survivability knowledge, and the ability to obtain/maintain a Secret clearance.

Qualifications

Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems is looking to add a Engineer/Principal Engineer - Survivability to join our team. This position can be located in Palmdale, San Diego or El Segundo California.

The selected candidate will support one or more of the sub-disciplines within Survivability
  • Component- and system-level signature design, modeling, and analysis in the electromagnetic (EM), infrared (IR), visual (VIS) and acoustic spectrums
  • RF measurement / testing (Tiers 0-3)
  • Liaison engineering, supporting technicians with job inspections, defect disposition and guidance, and all-up system assessments
  • Material & Process development, testing, and application
  • Mission systems design, integration and test
Potential Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To
  • Coordinate with designers and supportability / maintainability engineers to ensure component and system compliance with Survivability requirements
  • Develop and integrate advanced technology to reduce system detectability
  • Implement and manipulate analytical codes; building and analyzing virtual models, optimizing designs, troubleshooting issues, and performing trend analysis
  • Design, plan, and execute RCS/RF tests (Tier 0 – 3), to include determining test requirements, selecting testing methods and measurements, operating and maintaining equipment, executing setup and test events, and delivering pre/post test reports
  • Analyze component and system test results and deliver recommendations on materials, capabilities, and other aspects of Survivability performance
  • Coordinate with suppliers / vendors on material, technology, and equipment design, delivery, implementation and test, to include developing requirements, writing SOWs, providing engineering oversight, and tracking / reporting performance

This position could require travel up to 25%.

Basic Qualifications
  • Education Experience Requirement:
    • Engineer (LV2): Bachelor's Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) discipline and 2 years of related engineering experience, OR a Master's Degree in a STEM and 0 years of related engineering experience
    • Principal Engineer (LV3): Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics) discipline and 5 years of related engineering experience; OR a Master’s degree in a STEM discipline and 3 years of related engineering experience; OR a PhD in a STEM discipline and 1 years of related engineering experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of one or more scientific principles related to Survivability (electromagnetic transmission through space and within materials, IR reflectance / emissivity and contrast, light or sound propagation, etc.)
  • Experience in one or more of the Survivability sub-disciplines, across one or more of the spectrums (RF, IR, Vis, Acoustic), including design and analysis, measurement, integration and test, mission system integration, and liaison engineering
  • Your ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret Clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the Company.
Preferred Qualifications
  • M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or other applicable STEM degree
  • Demonstrated understanding of one or more of the Survivability sub-disciplines, including hands-on experience developing Survivable designs, performing analysis, planning and executing tests (e.g. RF tests at an indoor or outdoor test facility) and conducting post-test data analysis, collaborating with other engineering disciplines on integration efforts, and providing dispositions on / guiding repairs of build defects
  • Experience with one or more Survivability-related tools (e.g. 2D or 3D Method of Moments or Physical Optics codes such as SENTRi or Xpatch, RCS data processing tools such as Knowbell or Saber, etc.)
  • Experience working with other engineering disciplines to establish requirements and develop a Survivable system design that meets the customer’s mission objectives
  • Experience in one or more CAD tools (CATIA, NX, etc.)
  • Programming / scripting experience in Python, C/C++, Matlab, or other language
  • Current active U.S. Government in-scope Top Secret Security Clearance (including a background investigation within the past 5 years or enrolled into Continuous Evaluation)

Primary Level Salary Range: $101,000.00 - $151,400.00

Secondary Level Salary Range: $125,300.00 - $187,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

  • Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
  • Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results.
  • Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
  • In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
