Job summary

Tippmann Group is seeking Project Design Interns at the corporate office in Fort Wayne, IN to assist the Design Team and cross-functional groups during the sales cycle and construction process.

As an intern, you will draft site and facility design options using CAD, 3D modeling, and BIM, support cost estimation, and help communicate design solutions to leadership. You’ll gain hands-on experience with real projects and mentorship.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a bachelor’s or equivalent in Mechanical, Civil, Industrial, Construction Eng/Tech, Construction Mgmt or Computer Graphics Tech.
• Proficiency with AutoCAD or related drafting technology.
• Understanding of 3D modeling and BIM concepts.
• Strong communication and presentation skills.
• Demonstrated leadership and reliability in school/work.
• Self-motivated with minimal supervision.
• Proficient in MS Office (Excel).
• Knowledge of facility/site design incl. architectural, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with Design Team and Sales Leadership to understand client needs and facility design requirements.
• Translate business requirements into site and facility design options for stakeholders.
• Develop detailed site designs using CAD, 3D modeling, and BIM tools.
• Provide information to Estimating for project costs and design options.
• Modify design options to resolve open design elements as requested.
• Support Project Management throughout construction.
• Perform other duties as required by the project.

Job description

Project Design Interns quickly become involved in the day to day design activities at Tippmann Construction. They team directly with their mentor and work closely with the Tippmann Construction Design Team, Sales, Estimating, Project Management, and Leadership teams during the sales cycle and the construction process. They are responsible for being one of the key resources focused on developing site and facility solutions, drafting options, incorporating project design needs, assisting with project planning and cost estimations, and presenting the options to Tippmann Leadership.

Core Responsibilities:

• Work with the Tippmann Construction Design Team and Sales Leadership to understand the clients business, operational processes, and their facility design needs and wants
• Translate business requirements into the site and facility design options for the impacted stakeholders
• Utilize CAD, 3D Modeling, and BIM tools to develop detail site and facility designs, insuring designs meets all stakeholder needs and wants
• Assist in providing the correct information to Estimating for the purpose of developing project costs, including optional designs, alternates, and allowances
• When requested by the customer or Design Team member, modify design options and drive resolution on open design elements and issues
• Support Tippmann Project Management teams throughout the construction process
• Other duties as required by the project

Skills and Capabilities:

• Progressing toward a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Construction Engineering and Technology, Construction Management, Computer Graphics Technology or related degree
• Proficiencies with AutoCad or related drafting technology
• Understanding and experience with 3D Modeling and BIM concepts
• Strong internal and external communication and presentation skills
• Demonstrated leadership in driving decisions among a team of individuals
• Track record of positive job/school performance, attention to detail and results-oriented experience
• Self-starter, highly motivated and require limited supervision
• Proficiency with the MS Office suite of products including MS Excel
• Understanding of industrial facility and site design including architectural, mechanical, civil, structural, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, and equipment layout preferred
• Knowledge of the Food Processing and Distribution industry preferred

• Position is paid.
• Position based at the Tippmann Group Corporate office in Ft. Wayne, Indiana
• Occasional travel to project locations may be required
• Expense program for eligible travel, meals, and lodging
