Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding offers internships to provide students with experience in technical or administrative roles and the potential for future full-time employment. Some positions may require access to shipyards and working at heights during construction or overhaul processes.

Applicants must be 18+ years old, enrolled in a relevant degree program (Electrical Engineering preferred), maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA, and be available for a 10-week summer schedule with a 40-hour work week.

• Enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements (Electrical Engineering or related).
• Minimum GPA of 2.5 or higher (transcripts uploaded).
• Attend college/university in the fall following the internship.
• Background check, physical, and hair follicle drug screen required.

Responsibilities

• Gain hands-on experience in technical or administrative positions in the engineering environment.
• Work across project sites including ships under construction or overhaul, possibly at heights or confined spaces.

The Role

Ingalls Shipbuilding offers internships which allow students to gain experience in technical or administrative positions and provide the opportunity to possibly gain future full time employment.

Some engineering, technical, and waterfront positions may require the ability to physically access a wide variety of work sites, including those aboard ships under various stages of construction or overhaul, including the use of vertical and inclined ladders, and may involve limited kneeling, stooping, standing, etc.

The recruitment and selection is based on bona fide business-related requirements.

• Anticipated Graduation Date
• Current Academic Level (such as Junior, Senior, Grad School)
• Overall GPA - 4.0 scale

Must Have

• Be at least 18 years of age before the start of the summer intern program (Mid-May)
• Be enrolled in a degreed program that supports the company’s business requirements. Typically in the following areas:
• Electrical Engineering
• Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher (Most recent college transcripts will be required and must be uploaded in the system at the time of application)
• Attend a college/university (undergraduate or graduate program) in the fall following the internship
• Successfully complete a criminal background investigation, physical and a hair follicle drug screen
• Work a 40-hour work week for a minimum of 10 weeks during the summer.
• An adequate email address is required when applying, receiving communication, and obtaining employment offers.
