Job summary

Protective invites talented students to join as Business Systems Summer 2027 Intern at our Corporate Office in Birmingham, AL. This 8-week program offers hands-on experience supporting technology solutions for our life insurance business, with potential work on UI design, SQL enhancements, business analysis, and system integrations.

Interns will collaborate with business leaders, receive mentoring, and participate in professional development and community events.

Qualifications

• Undergraduate or graduate student actively enrolled as of May 31, 2027.
• Majors include MIS, CIS, CS, Business Science, Industrial Engineering or similar.
• Interest in business systems or computer science with coding experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop and enhance front-end, web-based internal tools with back-end database connections.
• Assist with the design, development, and implementation of user-facing applications and internal solutions.
• Support new SQL database initiatives, including data management and interface development.
• Gather and document user requirements to help shape new system interfaces and enhancements.
• Collaborate with team members to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned based on team needs.

As a Business Systems Summer 2027 Intern, you will gain hands‑on experience supporting technology solutions that help drive Protective's life insurance business. Depending on your interests and strengths in business systems or computer science, you may contribute to user interface design and development, SQL database enhancements, business analysis, requirements gathering, system integrations, and presentations that demonstrate how our systems support both internal users and key business operations.

Our InternshipProgram is an annual 8‑week program that provides high‑performing college students with hands‑on experience working with an organization that has been recognized by TIME Magazine as one of America’s Best Companies in 2026. This program will include the opportunity to participate in personal mentoring and insight into our business operations. Interns will have the opportunity to collaborate with business leaders to develop and execute solutions to real business problems. In addition to gaining meaningful work experience, interns will have the opportunity to participate in various community and professional development events.

Program Details

Duration: May 31st- July 30th, 2027

Location: Corporate Office in Birmingham, AL.

Student Criteria

• Education: Undergraduate or Graduate students. This program is designed and optimized for rising Junior or Senior Undergraduate students. Students must be actively enrolled in either an Undergraduate or Graduate degree program as of May 31st, 2027 to be eligible.
• Majors: Management Information Systems, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Science, Industrial Engineering or similar.

What You'll Do

• Develop and enhance front-end, web‑based internal tools with back‑end database connections (for interns with coding experience).
• Assist with the design, development, and implementation of user‑facing applications and internal solutions.
• Support new SQL database initiatives, including data management and interface development.
• Gather and document user requirements to help shape new system interfaces and enhancements.
• Collaborate with team members to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Perform other duties and projects as assigned based on team needs.

$22 - $22 an hour

Interns will be compensated at a competitive rate of $22-$22/hour, for 40 hours of scheduled work per week over a defined 9 week period.
