Spectrum Building Services of America is a growing commercial facilities services company serving major national and regional customers across multiple U.S. markets.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Financial Analyst, FP&A to join our finance team. This is not a bookkeeping or data-entry position. We are looking for someone who enjoys understanding the story behind the numbers, investigating why financial results changed, building financial models, and turning financial and operational data into useful information for management.
The successful candidate will work closely with the CEO, accounting team, and operational leadership to provide accurate, timely, and insightful financial analysis.
The Senior Financial Analyst will be responsible for financial planning and analysis, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, financial statement analysis, profitability analysis, cash-flow forecasting, and financial modeling.
A major responsibility of this position is cause-of-change and root-cause analysis.
We do not simply want reports showing that an expense increased or profitability declined. We expect the analyst to investigate the underlying data, determine what caused the change, quantify the major drivers, identify items requiring further investigation, and clearly communicate the findings.
You should be comfortable receiving financial information and independently asking:
Analyze profitability by:
Identify the primary drivers of profitability changes, including:
Work with the accounting team during month-end close to:
The Senior Financial Analyst supports the close process through analysis and review. Accounting ownership and final accounting entries remain with the accounting function.
Perform scenario and sensitivity analysis to show management how different assumptions affect revenue, profitability, EBITDA, and cash flow.
Support management with ad hoc financial and business analysis as requested.
The successful analyst does more than prepare spreadsheets.
For example, instead of reporting:
“Supply expense was $40,000 over budget.”
We expect analysis such as:
“Supply expense was $40,000 over budget. Approximately $18,000 resulted from higher purchasing in Market A, $11,000 resulted from vendor price increases, $7,000 appears related to purchasing volume above expected levels, and $4,000 remains unexplained and requires additional investigation.”
Your job is to help management understand what happened, why it happened, and where attention is required.
Experience with any of the following is helpful but not required:
You are naturally curious about numbers.
When something changes significantly, your first reaction is to determine why.
You are comfortable challenging data that does not make sense.
You distinguish between an accounting error and a genuine change in business performance.
You can take a large amount of information and reduce it to the few things management actually needs to understand.
You don’t simply identify problems. You investigate them.
You are comfortable working directly with senior management and explaining financial information clearly and concisely.
You take ownership of your work and follow issues through to resolution.
The position will require regular working-hour overlap with U.S. Pacific Time for meetings and collaboration. Exact schedule will be discussed during the interview process.
