Job summary

Applied Materials in Gloucester, MA is seeking an intern/co-op in the Advanced Project Development group to help develop and optimize semiconductor processes used by leading chipmakers. The role focuses on hands-on wafer plating demonstrations, metrology, and supporting process engineering activities.

Start date is beginning of November 2026 for 6–9 months, on-site in Gloucester, MA, with travel and relocation as needed.

Qualifications

  • Student must be currently enrolled in a Doctorate (or Master’s) degree program in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience in semiconductor processing or manufacturing preferred
  • Experience in programming (C/C++, Matlab, Python) preferred
  • Quick learner

Responsibilities

  • Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations, to include: tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, documentation
  • Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology
  • Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions

Applied Materials’ Advanced Project Development Department is searching for a co-op to join our team! Our work involves developing and optimizing process for the next generation of semiconductor product that is in use by leading companies across the world. The position will entail the following:

  • Assist with laboratory plating demonstrations, to include: tool preparation, processing wafers, measuring wafers, documentation.
  • Lead small development projects involving wafer metrology
  • Support process engineering through procurement, shipping, and inventory functions
  • Start date: Beginning of November 2026
  • Duration: 6 - 9 months
  • Location: On-site, Gloucester, MA
Requirements
  • Student must be currently enrolled in a Doctorate (or Master's) degree program in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field

Compensation

$41 - $50 per hour

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
