Applied Materials’ VSE strategic marketing group is seeking an intern for Summer 2026 at our Gloucester, MA location. The role focuses on patterning and implant applications with opportunities to work on state-of-the-art implant tools as the backbone of semiconductor processes.

Responsibilities include wafer processing, metrology, data analysis, and documentation, with hands-on experience in modeling and process demonstrations. Travel and relocation support may apply per internal policies.

Qualifications

• Pursuing Doctoral degree in related field; good academic standing; GPA 3.0 or above preferred.
• Hands-on expertise in thin film materials characterization techniques.
• Familiarity with modeling methodologies such as FEM, Monte Carlo simulations; modeling automation a plus.
• TCAD highly preferred.

• Collaborate with implant material processing groups and process demonstrations, processing wafers, measuring wafers, modelling and simulating processes, analyzing results, and documentation.
• Participate in development projects involving wafer processing, desired metrology and present updates in group meetings.

Applied Materials’ VSE strategic marketing group is searching for an intern to join our team for summer 2026! Our group is specially working on patterning and implant applications in new emerging semiconductor fabrication related applications. We have state‑of‑the‑art implant tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel precise materials engineering we are advancing processes such as doping, and various material properties. The position will entail the following:

• Collaborate with implant material processing groups and process demonstrations, processing wafers, measuring wafers, modelling and simulating processes, analyzing results, and documentation.

• Participate in development projects involving wafer processing, desired metrology and present updates in group meetings.

• Support process engineering through procurement, shipping samples, and tracking inventory functions.

• Start date: Summer 2026

• Must be available to work 6 - 9 months, onsite at our Gloucester, MA location

Requirements

• Preference for students who are currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field in Semiconductors.
• Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale.
• Hands‑on expertise on thin film materials characterizations techniques such as ellipsometry, electrical IV/CV measurements, FTIR, microscopy and mechanical properties testing.
• Familiarity with modeling methodologies such as FEM, Monte Carlo simulations, etc. in addition to knowledge of modelling automation techniques is a big plus
• TCAD highly preferred

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job‑related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
