Qualifications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in transportation, logistics, business administration, education, public administration, or a related field required.
• Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in student transportation, school bus operations, transportation logistics, or a related field preferred.
• Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with appropriate passenger and school bus endorsements.
• Must meet all applicable Alabama State Department of Education (ALSDE) pupil transportation requirements, including required training, certifications, and continuing education.
• Experience with school bus routing, scheduling, transportation vendors, route management, and customer service with families and schools strongly preferred.

Overview

The Transportation & Safety Coordinator is a part‑time network‑level operations role responsible for supporting the effective, safe, and continuously improving transportation and school safety systems of i3 Academy.

The Coordinator serves as the primary day‑to‑day liaison among i3 Academy schools, families, transportation providers, and other transportation partners. The position oversees transportation coordination across all three campuses, including regular bus routes, route improvement, student transportation concerns, field trips, athletic transportation, transportation compliance, and coordination of bus discipline.

The Coordinator also supports i3 Academy's school safety program and serves as a key partner to the Chief Operations Officer in implementing safety plans, conducting safety walkthroughs, coordinating required drills, maintaining documentation, and implementing state and network safety initiatives.

This position is intended to provide consistent operational leadership and hands‑on coordination in two critical areas of school operations. The Transportation & Safety Coordinator will work closely with the Chief Operations Officer to strengthen systems, improve communication and customer service, identify operational challenges, and implement solutions across all three i3 Academy campuses.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Transportation Operations and Oversight:
  • Coordinate the day‑to‑day operation of i3 Academy's student transportation program across all three campuses.
  • Serve as the primary liaison between i3 Academy and its contracted transportation provider or other transportation partners.
  • Monitor route performance, on‑time service, capacity, driver coverage, missed stops, and other operational concerns.
  • Troubleshoot transportation issues and coordinate timely solutions with schools, families, and transportation providers.
• Routing and Transportation System Improvement:
  • Coordinate student routes, stops, schedules, ridership assignments, and route changes.
  • Monitor route capacity and recommend adjustments based on enrollment, ridership, and operational needs.
  • Assist with annual route planning and ongoing improvements to transportation efficiency, reliability, safety, and cost effectiveness.
  • Maintain accurate transportation data and documentation to support planning and decision‑making.
• Family and School Transportation Support:
  • Provide professional and timely customer service to parents and guardians regarding transportation questions and concerns.
  • Coordinate communication among families, school staff, drivers, and transportation providers.
  • Support communication regarding delays, route changes, substitutions, closures, and other transportation updates.
  • Identify recurring transportation concerns and recommend system‑level solutions.
• Field Trip and Athletic Transportation:
  • Coordinate transportation requests for field trips, athletics, CTE programs, extracurricular activities, and other school‑sponsored events.
  • Confirm schedules, vehicle availability, locations, costs, and transportation requirements.
  • Maintain an organized transportation calendar and ensure requests are coordinated in a timely manner.
  • Review trip documentation and transportation invoices as assigned.
• Transportation Compliance and Student Safety:
  • Maintain a valid CDL and all required certifications, endorsements, and training.
  • Complete required ALSDE transportation compliance activities, documentation, and professional development.
  • Monitor transportation safety concerns and assist with inspections, reviews, and required records.
  • Coordinate with assistant principals and transportation providers regarding bus incidents, student behavior, and transportation discipline.
• School Safety Planning and Compliance:
  • Support the development, review, and implementation of school safety and emergency operations plans across all three campuses.
  • Coordinate required safety drills and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Support implementation of state and local school safety requirements and initiatives.
  • Maintain safety records, calendars, reports, and compliance documentation.
• Safety Walkthroughs and Emergency Preparedness:
  • Conduct regular campus safety walkthroughs and identify physical, procedural, and operational safety concerns.
  • Track identified concerns and coordinate follow‑up with school leaders, facilities, technology, and other departments.
  • Support staff training and communication related to emergency procedures and preparedness.
  • Assist with after‑action reviews following drills, emergencies, or significant safety incidents.
• Communication, Collaboration, and Continuous Improvement:
  • Meet regularly with the Director of Operations to review transportation performance, safety priorities, emerging concerns, and improvement projects.
  • Work collaboratively with principals, assistant principals, office staff, coaches, vendors, emergency responders, and state agencies.
  • Develop and improve procedures, calendars, checklists, communication systems, and other tools that strengthen transportation and safety operations.
  • Perform other transportation, safety, and operational duties as assigned by the Director of Operations.
