Job summary

Saint Paul Public Schools is seeking certified teachers for the Title I Project REACH program to provide tutoring at homeless shelters in St. Paul. Positions are hourly, 2–4 hours per day, 1–4 days per week, with most hours 4:00–8:00 PM.

You will teach reading, writing and math to at-risk students, coordinate with the Evening Coordinator, and support MCA/MAP prep and referrals as needed. This is a temporary, part-time role.

Qualifications

• Valid Minnesota Reading, Math or Elementary Education license.

• Strong attendance and promptness history.

General Information

The Title I Project REACH program provides tutoring services to several homeless shelters in the City of St. Paul.

The program is looking to hire hourly, certified teachers (highly qualified in reading and math), who can assist homeless children with enrichment lessons in reading, writing, and math.

The tutoring assignments are from 2 to 4 hours per day for 1 to 4 days per week. Most of the available hours are between the hours of 4:00 and 8:00.

Teachers hired for these positions may work at various sites including emergency, domestic abuse or transitional shelters.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have:

• A valid Reading, Math, or Elementary Education teaching license, issued by the Minnesota Department of Education.


• Experience working effectively with \"at-risk\" students and a diverse student population


• Experience assisting students with academic needs.


• Ability to plan and implement lessons based upon district standards.


• Demonstrate professional work ethic, history of good work attendance and promptness


• Competence in oral and written communication

Responsibilities

The position reports to the Project REACH Evening Coordinator.

The Duties Include

• Provide instruction in the core curriculum areas of reading, writing and math.


• Assess student's educational history to determine educational path.


• Assists students in MCA and MAP preparation.


• Make appropriate referrals for other needed educational services.


• Attend monthly in-services lead by the Project REACH Evening Coordinator.


• Perform other related duties as assigned.

• Each position will require knowledge of the specific special education category for which they are licensed.


• Knowledge of special education teaching philosophy.


• Knowledge of the special education curriculum for area(s) the teacher is responsible for instructing.


• Knowledge of teaching and learning strategies to meet a wide range of student learning styles and abilities within the special education student population.


• Knowledge of federal and state laws pertaining to special education; knowledge of due process compliance.


• Knowledge of multicultural, gender and disability fair curriculum concepts.


• Knowledge of research and trends in teaching and learning styles.


• Knowledge of instructional technologies.


• Strong skills in classroom presentation and management.


• Strong interpersonal skills to include the ability to work effectively with students, parents, district staff and community members from diverse backgrounds.

Work Schedule, Pay, And Benefits

This is a temporary, hourly teaching position, working part-time from 4 to 8 hours per week at Title I shelter sites, after school or early afternoons or evenings.

Job end date for this position will be on May 21, 2027.

The pay rate is $30.00 per hour.

Benefits are not available for this position. ESST leave allowed per MN law.

This position will remain open until filled.
