Speech Language Pathologist (.8 FTE)

Location: Paradise Valley Unified School District, Phoenix, Arizona.
Dates: 7/27/2026 – 5/27/2027.
Starting Date: Jul 30, 2026.

Purpose

The purpose of this position is to identify students with communication disabilities, plan and implement appropriate treatment, recommend treatment plans, and provide therapy to minimize adverse impacts on student success.

Essential Functions

• Assesses students’ communication skills (articulation, fluency, voice, expressive, receptive and pragmatic language, etc.) to identify communication disorders, determine program eligibility, and develop treatment recommendations.
• Collaborates with parents, teachers, physicians, administrators, team members, and other professionals to communicate information, resolve issues, and provide services in compliance with established guidelines.
• Coordinates meetings and processes for eligible students (testing/screening, IEPs, parent conferences, etc.) to present evaluation results, develop treatment plans, provide therapy, and train parents/students/staff.
• Develops treatment plans, interventions and educational materials to minimize the adverse impact of communication disorders in accordance with state and federal regulations.
• Instructs students in the use of appropriate communication technologies (e.g., augmentative communication systems) to reduce the educational impact of communication disorders.
• Trains staff (teachers, education support professionals) on communicative disorders, assistive device use, and implementation of treatment plans.
• Interprets medical reports within the scope of Speech/Language Pathologist’s experience and goals to ensure appropriate treatment plans.
• Maintains records (progress reports, activity logs, billing information, treatment plans, required documentation, quarterly reports, screening results, etc.) for compliance and reference.
• Participates in meetings, workshops, and seminars (trainings, IEPs, team meetings, etc.) to convey and gather information.
• Performs other related duties as assigned to support unit efficiency.
• Prepares written materials (activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans, Medicaid billings, reports, required documentation, etc.) for documentation and communication.
• Provides speech and language therapy to students to reduce adverse impacts on success.
• Researches resources and methods (intervention techniques, assessment tools, community resources, etc.) to determine appropriate approaches for student needs.
• Responds to inquiries from parents, teachers, staff, students to provide appropriate information.

Job Requirements

• Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: skill in administering assessment instruments, operating specialized equipment, office equipment, software, and maintaining accurate records; knowledge of anatomy and physiology of speech and hearing mechanisms, principles of speech and language therapy, relevant policies and laws; ability to adapt to changing priorities, communicate with diverse groups, maintain confidentiality, meet deadlines, work as part of a team, handle detailed data, and translate therapy data into meaningful educational activities.
• Responsibilities: work under supervision using standardized routines, provide information and advice, utilize resources from other work units as needed, and continually impact organizational services.
• Work Environment: occasional lifting, stooping, kneeling, crawling; 60% sitting, 20% walking, 20% standing; minimal temperature variations; exposure to minor risk of injury or illness; generally clean and healthy environment.
• Experience: Job‑related experience desired.
• Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
