Job summary

Poudre School District in Fort Collins, CO seeks a part-time classroom assistant to support students with physical and/or mental impairments. Duties include personal care, social skills, and assisting teachers with materials and documentation to aid full participation in activities.

Responsibilities cover implementing accommodations, monitoring behavior per 504/Safety plans, and aiding with transportation and daily routines.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
• One year of related experience required.
• Experience working with special needs students preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable.
• Criminal background check required for hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist the general classroom teacher with implementing accommodations, monitoring and enforcing acceptable social and physical behavior to meet 504 Plans, Safety Plans, behavior plans, and/or health care plans.
• Assist students with personal care, social skills and/or self-awareness and in getting to and from bus stops, restrooms, lunchrooms, etc. Assist students with personal health and hygiene, including spoon feeding, tube feeding, toileting, catheterization, and diapering. Lift, transfer, or push students in wheelchairs. Use alternative language techniques such as sign language or voice activated computer systems and adapt classroom materials for use by a student with a hearing or vision disability as needed.
• Assist teacher in preparing materials, administering tests, grading, taking attendance, completing paperwork, maintaining files, evaluating and recording student achievement and maintaining student records.
• Monitor student(s) in classroom and during breaks, lunch, recess, time outs, on field trips, getting on and off the bus, etc. Reinforce school-wide discipline procedures.
• Attend appropriate in-service meetings, building meetings, training, 504 meetings, parent conferences and/or school functions.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Education

One year of related experience

• Pay Range: $20.02-$22.42/hour (min--12% above min), based on qualifications and experience***

SUMMARY

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND LICENSES REQUIRED

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required
• One year of related experience
• Experience working with special needs students preferred
• Equivalent combination of education and experience acceptable
• If assigned to a Title I school, at least one of the following criteria is required
• completion of at least two years of higher education
• an associate's (or higher) degree
• successful completion of the WorkKeys assessment?demonstrating?instructional competency within one year of hire
