Job description

Location: Liberty Elementary School

Schedule: 9 months, 6.2 hours per day, 7:30am - 2:12pm

Grade: 14, Pay: $15.94 per hour

Position Type: Non-Interim

Dates: 8/4/2026 - 5/26/2027

Purpose Statement

The job of Nutrition & Wellness Worker II – Elementary & Middle School is performed to provide support to food service activities at the assigned location, specifically: directing food service personnel; producing food to meet students' mandated nutritional needs; providing written support to convey information; and complying with health standards and the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.

This job reports to the Central Kitchen Manager.

Essential Functions
  • Monitors, cleans and maintains all areas of storage, food preparation, and serving areas of the kitchen (e.g., utensils, equipment, refrigerators) to maintain safe and sanitary conditions and compliance with health requirements.
  • Estimates food preparation amounts to meet projected meal requirements while minimizing waste.
  • Evaluates prepared food for flavor, appearance, and temperature to present items that are accepted by students and/or staff.
  • Inspects food and supply deliveries to verify quantity, quality and specifications, and to comply with mandated health requirements.
  • Stocks, inventories, and orders food and supplies to ensure availability for meeting projected menu requirements and maintaining adequate inventory levels.
  • Manages assigned site operations to provide safe and efficient food services at the assigned site in compliance with mandated nutritional menu requirements and health standards.
  • Supervises, trains, evaluates N&W Substitutes in food preparation, serving, and cleaning to maintain safe and sanitary conditions and compliance with health requirements, as well as the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.
  • Attends department meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, etc., to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Reconciles transactions (e.g., meal counts, monies collected) to maintain account balances in compliance with established policies and procedures.
  • Maintains manual and/or electronic files and records (e.g., production reports, temperature logs, time sheets) to provide up-to-date information and/or historical reference according to administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
  • Uses web-based programs and other software related to the N&W Department to maintain daily operations.
  • Responds to inquiries of students, staff, and the public to provide information and/or direction regarding food items and food service policies and practices.
  • Screens free/reduced meal applications to ensure accuracy before submitting student applications to the Nutrition & Wellness Department.
Other Functions

Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills. Knowledge. Basic math, including fractions, percentages, and/or ratios; reading technical information, composing documents, facilitating group discussions; analyzing situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge includes safety practices and procedures; quantifying food preparation and handling; sanitation practices; methods of quantity cooking.

Abilities. Scheduling activities; gathering, collating, and classifying data; considering factors when using equipment; flexibility to work with others in a variety of circumstances; operating equipment using standardized methods; working with diverse individuals or groups; working with data; utilizing job-related equipment; problem solving; communication; setting priorities; teamwork; working with interruptions; detailed information handling; maintaining good rapport with students, employees, and community.

Responsibility

Responsibilities include working under limited supervision following standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; utilizing resources from other work units as required; continual opportunity to impact the organization’s services.

Work Environment

Typical physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity. Generally 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing. Work performed under temperature extremes and exposure risk of injury or illness. Applicant must be able to lift 50 pounds.
