The Assistant Chess Team Coach Requirements: CPR/First Aid Certification as well as other state-required safety certifications. Requires interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy in addition to the following:

• Have a thorough knowledge and abide by the rules in theSBDM Council Policy, Morgan County Board Policy, and the Morgan County Schools Code of Acceptable Behavior and Discipline.
• Conduct a parent meeting within the first week of practice to discuss team rules, practice andevent schedules, fundraising etc.
• Follow the chain of command (Coach=>Principal=>Superintendent).
• Be solely responsible for the care of the facility. Notify, Facilities Director and Principal of any maintenance issues that need to be addressed as soon as possible.
• Be solely responsible for turning off the lights and locking all doors/gate at the conclusion of team-related events.
• Teach and model sportsmanship skills to participants.
• Be responsible for the conduct of self, coaching staff and participants in practice, on trips, and during competition. (Cursing, using obscene gestures, addressing the fans or other players in an unsportsmanlike way, or any other action that is unbecoming of a participant or employee of the Morgan County School District will not be tolerated and will result in disciplinary action.)
• Create and maintain a regularly scheduled practice. (Start and stop on designated times.)
• Teach and practice activity rules.
• Inventory all equipment and uniforms (if applicable)at the beginning of the season and at the end of the season. A copy of these inventories must be submitted to the building principal. The Head Coach is responsible for ensuring that all uniforms (if applicable) and equipment are returned and locked in storage per Principal-determined location within two weeks of the end of their season.
• Be responsible for maintaining an up-to-date medical kit. Ensure that all necessary and required paperwork be taken to every away activity and readily at home activities.
• Promote professional ethics while representing the Morgan County School District as a coach or teacher. Code of ethics developed by the Morgan County Board of Education applies.
• Be responsible for contacting participants and assistant coaches if events are canceled or postponed. In inclement weather, our school campus must be deemed safe before any practices or events are scheduled. Contact the facilities director prior to conducting any practices on snow days to determine if sidewalks and parking lots have been cleaned and salted.
• Work cooperatively with coaches and administrators.
• Attend all meetings called by Principal or Superintendent in relationship to the duty.
• Develop a positive player/coach relationship.
• Be certified in CPR /First Aide and other state required safety courses.
• Be aware of participant’s medical conditions, etc. in relationship to activity.
• Strive to secure scholarships for participants.
• Follow approved sign out procedures for participants during away events.
• Perform any other duties as assigned by the Principal, and or Superintendent.
