PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The primary role of the Instructional Coach is to support teachers with targeted professional learning, coaching, lesson modeling, and access to evidence‑based instructional strategies that can be used to differentiate instruction and meet the needs of at‑risk/economically disadvantaged learners. The goal of the Instructional Coach is to improve and sustain student academic achievement by promoting a culture for learning across all content areas. The Instructional Coach will collaborate with teachers and campus instructional leaders to analyze student data and progress monitor student achievement to identify areas of need and adjust instructional practices. The Instructional Coach will ensure at‑risk/economically disadvantaged students, including other special populations such as homeless, foster‑care, and military connected, are receiving the differentiated instructional supports needed to improve academic achievement. In addition, the Instructional Coach will support the development, implementation, and progress monitoring of the campus intervention system to ensure the effectiveness of the interventions and adjust as needed for continued progress.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

Bachelor’s degree from accredited university

Master’s degree, preferred

Valid Texas teaching certificate, Secondary

Special Knowledge/Skills:

Deep knowledge of research‑based reading strategies and best teaching practices

Understanding of curriculum, assessments and data analysis to align instruction

Knowledge of writing strategies across the content areas

Knowledge of Texas Essential Knowledge & Skills (TEKS) and State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR)

Provide resources and job embedded professional learning through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)

Strong computer/technology skills (Microsoft Office, Google, SharePoint)

Ability to create an atmosphere of trust and collaboration among staff to promote professional growth and accelerate the reading achievement of all students

Strong interpersonal communication/presentation skills needed to promote peer coaching and model instructional lessons

Daily Pay Range:

Minimum: $317.01

Maximum: $442.29

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Assist teachers with the use of appropriate core and supplemental intervention materials/resources that align with district and state curriculum and meet the needs of at‑risk and economically disadvantaged students.
  2. Know how to use and implement a range of effective strategies and analyze instruction.
  3. Provide professional staff development and training sessions for district and campus‑based initiatives.
  4. Model the use of technology in the planning, teaching/learning, and assessment process.
  5. Assist with implementation and monitoring of reading, math, science, social studies, and intervention programs.
  6. Work cooperatively with special‑population teachers to modify curricula as needed for special‑population students (IEP, LPAC).
  7. Work cooperatively with teachers to include best practices for special‑population groups.
  8. Assist with the selection of books and other instructional materials to meet individual literacy needs.
  9. Attend and assist with intervention team (RTI teams, at‑risk, tier interventions) as needed.
  10. Gather and assist in analyzing data, writing required state and federal reports, and administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress or those in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
  11. Compile, maintain and file all reports, records and other documents required. Maintain a calendar reflecting coaching activities and scheduled meetings and submit required documentation, including but not limited to coaching logs, classroom visit forms, teacher‑support coaching work plans, and other resources as required by the funding source.
  12. Administer and interpret assessment data to determine adequate progress or those in need of supplemental or intensive intervention.
  13. Become familiar with the administration and interpretation of in‑depth diagnostic measures or additional assessments adopted by the district.
  14. Establish and maintain open lines of communication with all stakeholders.
  15. Maintain a professional relationship with all colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  16. Use acceptable communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  17. Attend and participate in department and faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as needed, in a supporting role.
  18. Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
  19. Perform other duties assigned by immediate supervisor (primary evaluator) in accordance with funding source guidelines.
