Job summary

Minnetonka Public Schools seeks a Secondary Chinese Immersion teacher for MMW (Grades 6–8). The role requires native or near-native Mandarin, a MN Chinese license, and a Teaching license in Education.

You will develop lesson plans, implement immersion strategies, and communicate with families to support student growth. The position emphasizes collaboration with staff, integration of technology, and ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

• Native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese (Superior rating per ACTFL).
• Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.
• Minnesota K-12 Chinese and 5-8/5-12 Social Studies licenses or qualify via Tier 1/2 verification.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese and communicate with parents.
• Deliver instruction using immersion methodologies suitable for middle school (Grade 6–8).
• Develop lesson plans and adapt curriculum to pupil needs as per district.

• Evaluate pupil progress and prepare timely progress reports.

Qualifications

1. Minnesota K-12 Chinese and 5-8/5-12 Social Studies Teacher licenses, or can qualify for MN Teacher Licenses through Tier 1 or Tier 2 District verification.
2. Native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese (we use the InterviewIQ language assessment tool and require a "Superior" rating under the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines).
3. Bachelor's degree in Education or related field.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

1. Demonstrate native or near native fluency in Mandarin Chinese. ("Superior" rating under the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines).
2. Demonstrate English Language proficiency to allow communication with parents.
3. Demonstrate successful experience in Total Physical Response (TPR) methodology for teaching in an immersion program at a middle school level (Grade 6 to Grade 8).
4. Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide individualized and small group instruction to adapt the District approved curriculum to the needs of each pupil at a middle school level (Grade 6 to Grade 8).
5. Translate lesson plans into developmentally appropriate learning experiences for middle school students (Grade 6 to Grade 8).
6. Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to achieve an effective learning atmosphere.
7. Evaluate pupils' academic and social growth, keep appropriate records in a timely fashion prepare progress reports.
8. Identify pupil needs and make appropriate referrals and develop strategies for individual education plans.
9. Communicate regularly with parents outside normal classroom day by means of Schoology, newsletters, phone calls, e-mails, conferences, etc.
10. Work in a supportive and collaborative manner with colleagues and supervisors.
11. Maintain and improve professional skills by participating in building and department meetings, PLC's, formal coursework, workshops, and seminars in an effort to stay current with best teaching practices.
12. Integration of technology into instruction.
13. Perform other duties of a similar nature or level.
