Job summary

Third Future Schools in Edgewater, TX is seeking a Special Education Teacher to serve students with IEPs/504s and help them improve proficiency and habits of success. This is an in-person role at Brentwood Middle School.

The teacher will assess students, prepare IEPs/504s, provide services, and collaborate with staff to meet school goals. Texas certification required; salary up to $75,000.

Qualifications

• Texas Special Education Certification is required.
• Demonstrated ability to assess, plan, and deliver special education services.
• Ability to develop and implement IEPs/504 plans and Student Learning Plans.

Responsibilities

• Assess students to determine the need for special education services.
• Prepare IEPs or 504s for eligible students.
• Follow IDEA regulations and related laws and policies concerning special education services.
• Provide services to assigned students in support of their IEPs and Student Learning Plans.
• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional lessons and activities.
• Create a safe and positive educational climate in which students may learn.
• Differentiate instruction and implement Student Learning Plans to maximize time on task and engagement.
• Communicate with and engage parents and families to support student learning and habits of success.
• Observe and evaluate student performance.
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures.
• Tutor students on an individual basis.
• Collaborate with colleagues to accomplish school goals.

Job description

Third Future Schools is a high-achieving and growing network of charter schools. The network's school in Edgewater, Texas Brentwood Middle School, is looking for a Special Education Teacher. Brentwood’s teachers help students improve academic proficiency and build habits of success. They create a safe and orderly learning environment for students who are assigned to their class and for all the students in the school. They are supervised by the principal and assistant principal.

*Texas Special Education Certification required

The SPED Behavior teacher responsibilities include:

• Assess students to determine the need for special education services
• Prepare IEPs or 504s for students who qualify
• Follow IDEA regulations and comply with other federal and state laws and policies concerning special education services
• Provide services to assigned students in support of their IEPs and Student Learning Plans
• Plan, prepare and deliver instructional lessons and activities
• Create a safe and positive educational climate in which students may learn
• Develop Student Learning Plans and support students in accomplishing their learning objectives
• Teach an aligned curriculum–be clear about what students need to know and how they will demonstrate what they have learned
• Maintain a focus on student academic and performance outcomes
• Use direct instruction, personalized learning, and special education strategies to help students gain proficiency
• Differentiate instruction and implement Student Learning Plans in a way that maximizes time on task, student engagement, and student learning
• Support students in the development of habits of success
• Be creative in finding on-line resources and materials to supplement instruction and support personalized learning
• Work with colleagues and the administration to accomplish the school’s goals as outlined in the School Action Plan
• Assess student proficiency, monitor student progress, and provide grades in accordance with school procedures and regulations
• Read and stay abreast of current topics in education
• Utilize curricula that reflect the diverse educational, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds of the students served
• Tutor Students on an individual basis
• Observe and evaluate student's performance
• Manage student behavior in the classroom by invoking approved disciplinary procedures
• Communicate with and engage parents and families to support student learning and habits of success
• Expand personal leadership skills
• Participate in professional learning communities and function well as part of a team
• Perform other duties as assigned

The Third Future Schools Special Needs Teachers help students improve academic proficiency and build habits of success. Special Education teachers primarily support students with IEPs or 504s, but they also help all students who have challenges learning and raising proficiency. They deliver high-quality instruction and work with colleagues to accomplish the TFS mission and vision. The maximum salary for a teacher with at least three years of demonstrated achievement results is $75,000.
