Job summary

City of Denton, TX is seeking a part-time crossing guard to assist elementary students in safely crossing streets at designated intersections. You will stop traffic, place cones, and ensure orderly movement during school hours.

The role requires basic knowledge of local traffic regulations, the ability to read and write, and the skill to respond calmly in emergencies. Bilingual in Spanish and English is preferred, with drug tests and background checks mandatory.

Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of municipal traffic regulations.
• Must pass drug test, criminal history background check, and social security number verification check.
• Must be able to work 3 hours daily, morning and afternoon, on DISD school days.
• Bilingual in Spanish and English.

Responsibilities

• Direct pedestrians, especially elementary students, safely across streets.
• Stop traffic flow at intersections and set up traffic cones before school.
• Notify police of hazards and incidents in the vicinity.
• Maintain punctual on-site attendance and cooperate with coworkers.

Job description

Responsible for assisting elementary school children in crossing the street at designated intersections in a safe and orderly manner.

Essential Functions

• Stops traffic flow across streets and intersections that may or may not have a permanent stop sign
• Places traffic cones in the street before school begins and removes at end of school as needed
• Notifies police headquarters of real or potential hazards and pedestrian accidents in the vicinity
• Ability to get along with customers and co-workers
• Maintains regular and punctual on-site attendance

Minimum Qualifications / Acceptable Equivalency

• Basic knowledge of municipal traffic regulations

OR

• Any combination of related education, experience, certifications and licenses that will result in a candidate successfully performing the essential functions of the job
