Job summary

Crescent City Schools in New Orleans seeks a full-time paraprofessional to support students with disabilities in the classroom, deliver instruction individually or in small groups, and assist with data collection to monitor progress.

You will collaborate with teachers, therapists, and administrators to support academic, social, and emotional development, participate in family and staff meetings, and help maintain a safe, inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety and development of students with disabilities.
  • Collaborate with classroom teacher to deliver instruction.
  • Meet with parents, teachers, and school leadership regularly.
  • Work with therapists, evaluators and teachers to support student development.
  • Develop educational materials and use student devices.
  • Implement de-escalation techniques after CPI training.
  • Apply positive behavioral interventions to support students.
  • Accurately collect behavioral and academic data as instructed.
  • Participate in school life, events and activities.
  • Track student progress data and take on other tasks as needed.

Job description

Crescent City Schools is seeking a full-time, well-qualified Paraprofessional. Duties include: supporting students with disabilities in the classroom, delivering instruction individually or in small groups, collecting data and supporting the emotional, social, and behavioral needs of students, and participating in the life of the school as a significant member of the staff. The Constellations Program’s paraprofessional will report to the Principal of the Constellations Program.

Our Special Education Paraprofessionals impact students’ lives by:
  • Maintaining the safety and development of the students with disabilities in their care
  • Establishing high expectations for each student, and supporting their academic, social, and emotional development
  • Working closely with the classroom teacher to deliver instruction individually, in small groups, and to support whole-class instruction for more than 50% of the workday
  • Participating in frequent meetings with parents, teachers, and school leadership
  • Collaborating with therapists, evaluators, and teachers to support student development
  • Developing educational materials, learning communication techniques, and using student devices
  • After CPI training, implementing de-escalation techniques when working with students, as required
  • After training, utilize positive behavioral interventions to support the behavioral needs of students
  • Accurately collecting behavioral and academic data as instructed
  • Participating in the life of the school, including student activities and events
  • Tracking student behavioral and academic progress data
  • Taking on other tasks, as needed

Physical Requirements
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, run, walk, talk, hear, kneel, crouch, operate a computer and other office equipment, reach with hands and arms, and lift and move up to 100 pounds
  • Must be physically able to perform Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training and techniques and react and intervene quickly during crisis situations, such as but not limited to the following circumstances: student elopement, physical altercations involving students, or any situation that requires physical intervention to maintain student safety
  • This is an in-person role

About The Constellations Program

The Constellations Program is a preK through 4th grade school setting for students with low-incidence disabilities. At Constellations, we prepare students to achieve their highest independent level of functioning. The Constellations Program will support students in meeting their functional skill needs as well as the academic skills aligned to the LEAP Connect. While this program is geared primarily towards students with Autism, it is open to other students with limited to no verbal skills, intellectual impairments, and similar exceptionalities.
