Job summary

Saint Patrick Catholic School in Norfolk, VA seeks a Middle School Spanish Teacher for 2026-2027 to support 5th–6th grade growth in language skills, culture, and confidence. We value faith formation and collaborative teamwork within a thriving Catholic community.

The ideal candidate holds a Spanish degree (Masters preferred) with 2–4 years of teaching experience, and Virginia licensure is preferred. This is a full-time, 10-month exempt position beginning August 21, 2026, with a competitive

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Spanish or related field (Master’s preferred).
• 2–4 years of teaching experience in Spanish, preferably in middle/high school.
• Licensed by the Virginia Department of Education (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer instructional plans aligned with the school’s standards.
• Develop students’ grammar and vocabulary in Spanish with reading emphasis; include speaking/writing activities.
• Promote a safe, respectful classroom and support individualized/small group instruction.
• Create weekly lesson plans and translate plans into engaging learning experiences.
• Assess student learning and modify methods to fit individual needs; provide feedback and grades.
• Communicate with students and parents; provide regular feedback.

Saint Patrick Catholic School is currently seeking a Middle School Spanish Teacher to nurture and support our 5-6th grade students in their personal and academic growth for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Responsibilities

• Develop and administer meaningful instructional plans and curriculum that is aligned with the school’s academic and developmental standards
• Develop students fundamental skills in grammar and vocabulary in Spanish with proficient reading as the ultimate goal, but also using speaking and writing activities
• Promote a classroom environment that is safe, respectful, and conducive to individualized and small group instruction and student learning
• Develop weekly lesson plans and instructional materials, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student’s needs; conduct individual and small group instruction as needed
• Provide constructive student feedback and grades in accordance with school policy and procedures
• Continue to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings
• Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by school procedures
• Ensure effective communication with students and parents; encourage collaboration and provide regular feedback (both written and in-person) to parents
• Coordinate with peers, especially within grade level, to evaluate and assess curriculum
• Attend regular faculty and department meetings; contribute to teamwork and positive morale
• Participate in faith formation experiences
• Perform other duties as directed by school administration

Preferred Qualifications

• Candidate is comfortable incorporating the teaching of Spanish culture, which may include festivals, traditional food, and dress, and social conventions
• Experience with classroom management and working with digital technologies
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, possess strong interpersonal skills, and be able to solve problems without sacrificing relationships
• Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
• Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds, climb stairs, bend, crouch, crawl, stoop and run
• Committed to serving as a role model for students

Education and Experience
