Job summary

Montgomery-Public-Schools is seeking a High School Paraprofessional to assist teachers in achieving identified instructional goals, to support students academically and socially, and to contribute to a positive classroom environment.

You will collaborate with teachers, counselors, speech therapists, and other professionals to implement IEPs, collect data on progress, adapt materials, manage behavior, provide personal care when necessary, and help with lunch, field trips, and other supervised

Qualifications

• Must be able to work effectively under the direction of others
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalent
• Two years of college or an associate degree or demonstrate knowledge of and ability to assist in instruction, reading, writing, and math

Responsibilities

• Assist in educational and social development of students under guidance of teachers
• Assist in implementation of IEPs and related data collection
• Assist with accommodation of learning environment and materials
• Assist with behavior management plan data collection
• Provide personal care assistance
• Collaborate with professionals (teachers, counselor, speech therapist, social worker, occupational therapist, physical therapist)
• Maintain student records with classroom teachers
• Support students with emotional or behavioral concerns and social skills development
• Assist with supervision during lunch, assemblies, field trips, etc.
• Guide independent study and remediation with data collection
• Prepare instructional materials for classroom use
• Help with individual and small group remediation and instructional support
• Maintain confidentiality of student information

Candidate Qualification

• Be at least 18 years of age
• Have a high school diploma
• Have the ability to work effectively under the direction of others
• Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education; or
• Obtained an associate’s (or higher) degree; or
• Met a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal State or local academic assessment, knowledge of and the ability to assist in instructing, reading, writing, and mathematics (or, as appropriate, reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness).

Job Function and Responsibilities

• Assists in the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of teachers
• Assists in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans and related data collection
• Assists with accommodation of learning environment and materials
• Assists with implementation of behavior management plans including data collection
• Provides personal care assistance
• Collaborates with all professionals including teachers, counselor, speech therapist, social worker, occupational therapist, and physical therapist
• Assists classroom teachers with maintaining student records
• Supports students with emotional or behavior concerns and assists them in developing appropriate social skills
• Assists with extra duties related to the supervision of students – lunch periods, assemblies, field trips, etc.
• Guides independent study, practice work, and corrective instruction directed by the teacher collecting appropriate data throughout the process
• Assists the teacher in preparing instructional materials for classroom use
• Assists with individual and small group remediation and instructional support
• Maintains confidentiality of student information
