Job summary

York County School Division is seeking a Head Coach for Athletics at Bruton High School. The role focuses on coaching student athletes, developing game strategies, and motivating players to excel in sport. Requires leadership to organize practices, evaluate players, and coordinate with administrators and parents.

Position reports to the Athletic Director with salary per the School Board Pay Plan. Candidates should have prior coaching experience and strong organizational skills in a school

Qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and maintain composure.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure eligibility.

  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate.
  • Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time for individual and team development.
  • Coaches and instructs players on rules, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players to determine needs for improvement and strategizes game plans.
  • Monitors compliance with state, regional, and district regulations for the athletic program.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Job Description
HEAD COACH - ATHLETICS

Primary Function

Position is responsible for coaching student athletes in game strategies and techniques to prepare them for competition. Position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

Compensation

Salary Range: $0 to $3,675 ; May Supplement

Minimum Qualifications
  • Prior successful coaching experience at the secondary level preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Must possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to handle details accurately.
  • Ability to work effectively and maintain composure under pressure.
  • Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Develops a fair evaluation process for players to be selected for the team.
  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages potential athletes to participate in the designated sport.
  • Assesses player's skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Assigns duties to an assistant coach as necessary.
  • Develops fundamental skills needed for player growth.
  • Coaches and instructs players, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes players, during competition and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Determines game strategy based on the team's capabilities.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of athletes at all times.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an athlete's injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the athletic performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the athletic program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards players, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the sport and team.
  • Follows established procedures for the proper care, maintenance, and requisitioning of equipment, supplies, and uniforms.
  • Follows established weight room maintenance and safety.
  • Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season as requested.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent's night, banquets, award nights, and pep rallies.
  • Maintains eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Completes all student‑athlete safety training requirements and works collaboratively with the Athletic Trainer.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements

Must have the ability to stand for extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels, outdoors and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly; physical agility to lift up to 25 pounds; to bend, to stoop, to sit on the floor, to climb stairs, to walk and to reach overhead.
