Job description

Who We Are. Chevron is one of the world’s leading energy companies—but what really sets us apart is how we’re rethinking energy for the future. From producing oil and gas to developing lower‑carbon technologies, Chevron engineers work across the full energy system to power everyday life more safely, efficiently, and responsibly. Learn more about What We Do and The Chevron Way.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Chevron operates around the globe and across the entire energy value chain. Learn more on our website Chevron.com.

What You’ll Actually Do

Chevron is hiring at various operating locations across the U.S, including:

  • Richmond, California
  • El Segundo, California
  • Pasadena, Texas
  • Pascagoula, Mississippi
  • Salt Lake City, Utah
  • Houston, Texas

Materials Engineering Interns may work in one of Chevron’s US-based refinery operations (El Segundo, Pasadena, Pascagoula, Richmond, and Salt Lake) or Chevron’s Technology, Projects and Execution team (Richmond, Houston). Mobility is encouraged as there are many opportunities for Chevron engineers to work in a variety of assignments at different domestic locations. Typical assignments include providing Materials Engineering support to refining or upstream facilities. Your duties will include material selection, reviewing specifications, performing failure analyses, corrosion studies, and metallurgy studies. You will work under the direction of a senior materials engineer. You will be expected to provide a written and oral summary of your internship, highlighting your contributions and impact.

At the completion of the internship, interns will have the opportunity to apply for a return internship or full‑time position with Chevron. If accepted for a full‑time entry level position, engineering graduates

will be enrolled in Chevron’s Horizons Program, an early‑career development program combining formal training, on‑the‑job competency development, mentoring, and multiple job assignments.

What’s Next After the Internship

New grads who join Chevron fulltime enter the Horizons Program, a structured early‑career experience that includes:

  • Formal training + on‑the‑job learning.
  • Mentorship from experienced professionals.
  • Multiple job assignments and possible location rotations.

You can build a career as a technical expert, people leader, or both.
