2026-2027 Clinic Aide (190 Days)

Primary Purpose
Work under the immediate guidance and direction of a licensed registered nurse to maintain routine clinic records, provide minor first aid care, and conduct health screenings.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Certification as a nurse aide, medical assistant or EMT preferred
- Hold or pursue certification on basic first aid and cardiac pulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
- Knowledge of basic first aid and CPR
- Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
- Ability to use software to develop databases and do word processing
- Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- One year experience in a health‑related position; experience working with school‑age children
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Health Services
- Work under the direct and indirect guidance of a licensed registered nurse.
- Maintain the clinic in the nurse’s absence if no substitute nurse is available.
- Provide basic first aid and care for minor injuries and illnesses according to the nurse’s protocol.
- Administer medication to students per board policy and maintain an accurate log.
- Perform procedures such as tube feedings and catheterizations after training by a registered nurse.
- Assist with screening programs, take vital signs, and document results as required; communicate findings to supervising health staff.
- Operate clinic equipment (blood pressure monitor, audiometer, glucometer, AED, titmus machine, and other medical devices).
- Escort students to and from the health room and assist students with disabilities as necessary.
- Keep the clinic clean, sanitary, and engaging for students and parents.
- Contact parents and emergency medical services according to established protocols.
Safety
- Maintain an efficient and safe clinic, following infection control procedures and universal precautions.
Clerical
- Prepare, compile, maintain, and file all required correspondence, reports, and records.
- Maintain a daily log of health office activities, including reportable accidents and communicable disease data.
- Maintain clinic supply inventory and request supplies as needed.
Compliance
- Comply with federal, state, and district policies, Texas Department of Health rules, State Board of Education rules, and board policy.
Other
- Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality and follow HIPAA guidelines.
- Maintain appropriate technology competence for current and future district needs.
- Implement alternative instruction methods as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- None for staff.
- Supervise students as assigned (e.g., duty station, clinic waiting area).
Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated according to the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.
Physical, Mental and Environmental Demands
- Standard clinic equipment (blood pressure monitor, audiometer, glucometer, AED, titmus machine, suction machine), adaptive equipment, and computer peripherals.
- Posture: frequent standing, sitting, kneeling, squatting, bending, pushing, pulling, twisting.
- Motion: frequent walking, grasping, wrist flexion/extension.
- Lifting: moderate lifting up to 15 pounds; may require heavy lifting and handling of students with disabilities.
- Environment: exposure to biological hazards, bacteria, communicable diseases.
- Mental demands: work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress.
Salary and Position
Position Type: Full‑Time
Salary: $22,901 to $30,610 per year
