Job Description

To assist Special Education Instructional Supervisors and Behavior Interventionists in working with campuses and students in implementation of positive behavioral support practices.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Qualifies for appropriate paraprofessional certificate

Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Demonstrated interest in and aptitude for work to be performed
  • Computer skills preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, both orally and in writing

Experience:

  • At least three (3) years of experience as special education paraprofessional, or similar experience
  • Experience with autism preferred
  • Experience with crisis intervention preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties
Program Management
  • Assist in the implementation of the Behavior Intervention Plans for students having difficulty regulating behavior in a variety of settings (special education and general education settings)
  • Collect and document data related to individual Behavior Intervention Plans designed to improve student behavior through use of positive behavior support methods.
  • Work collaboratively with campus-based teams, as well as district special education teams, to implement behavior intervention strategies.
  • Model the use of appropriate behavior intervention strategies for campus staff; provide training to other aides, as needed.
  • Maintain records, files and other pertinent documents on each student. Follow district guidelines related to filing and storage of confidential paperwork.
  • Maintain a high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of teachers.
  • Participate in professional development and Alief-approved crisis trainings as assigned.
Other
  • Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain an appropriate level of technology competence to meet the current and future needs of Alief.
  • Implement alternative methods of instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of Instructional Paraprofessional Personnel.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture: Standing, prolonged sitting, occasional kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing pulling, and twisting

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching; may also require climbing stairs and reaching over head

Lifting: Moderate lifting and carrying (up to 15 pounds); May require occasional heavy lifting and carrying (15-45 pounds)

Environment: May work prolonged or irregular hours; possible district wide or in-state travel; all campuses are temperature controlled with hard surface floors

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress

Salaries are determined by the number of completed and eligible years of service at an accredited school.

Salary is based on 187 days. If working less than 187 days, the salary will be less.
