Job summary

Capital School District is seeking 21st Century After-School Program Teachers for six temporary grant-funded positions. The role runs after school from 3:20 pm to 5:15 pm with planning time and Friday sessions choose monthly.

Compensation is $29.15/hour for professional learning and training. Positions support student engagement, SEL integration, and academic skill-building in a middle school setting, reporting to the Building Principal.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Delaware teaching certification (Bachelor's degree or higher).
  • Experience with 21st Century Programming, after-school programs, or community learning initiatives.
  • Experience tutoring or teaching middle school students strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and facilitate after-school sessions that build student connectedness to school and reinforce academic strategies for success.
  • Plan and manage entry procedures, transitions, and exit procedures
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL), leadership skills, and positive behavioral supports into programming.
  • Support program development to increase student participation, positive group interactions, and overall academic success.
  • Provide guidance on school orientation, expectations, study skills, and goal setting (academic and personal).
  • Coach students in personal leadership, responsibility, and decision-making aligned to program goals.
  • Support students in responding constructively to authority and building interpersonal skills.

Position: 21st Century After-School Program Teachers - 6 positions (Temporary - Grant Funded Position)
Reports to: Building Principal
Terms of Employment
  • Part-Time: 4–10 hours per week, pending scheduled dates
  • 3:20 pm to 5:15 pm, unless modified due to weather or operational need
  • Four weekly sessions (M-F) with up to one hour of planning time per week
  • Every other Friday each month
  • $29.15/hour for professional learning and training
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Program Implementation & Student Engagement

  • Plan and facilitate after-school sessions that build student connectedness to school and reinforce academic strategies for success.
  • Plan and manage entry procedures, transitions, and exit procedures
  • Integrate social-emotional learning (SEL), leadership skills, and positive behavioral supports into programming.
  • Support program development to increase student participation, positive group interactions, and overall academic success.
  • Provide guidance on school orientation, expectations, study skills, and goal setting (academic and personal).
  • Coach students in personal leadership, responsibility, and decision-making aligned to program goals.
  • Support students in responding constructively to authority and building interpersonal skills.
Community Engagement & Family Partnerships
  • Collaborate with parents, guardians, and caregivers to support student learning and well‑being.
  • Participate in and help facilitate community nights, family engagement events, and health/wellness initiatives connected to the 21st Century Program.
  • Work with families to build shared academic, social-emotional, and health‑related goals for students.
  • Strengthen school–home partnerships to increase student success and community involvement.
Data, Safety, and Compliance
  • Collect and report student data (attendance, behavior, SEL, and incentive participation).
  • Support and supervise students during daily programming and field trips to ensure safety.
  • Maintain reliable attendance, punctuality, and preparedness for assigned sessions.
Professional Learning & Summer Programming
  • Participate in program‑specific professional development and training aligned with state and district 21CCLC guidelines.
  • Assist with planning and facilitation of summer school programming as assigned.
  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Site Coordinator, District Leadership, or Principal.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Preferred: Delaware teaching certification (Bachelor's degree or higher).
  • Experience with 21st Century Programming, after‑school programs, or community learning initiatives.
  • Experience tutoring or teaching middle school students strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive relationships with students and foster inclusive, engaging learning environments.
