POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Camp Operations Director, the Groundskeeper is responsible for trimming and mowing the grounds, trash pick-up, and general grounds maintenance at a level defined by the Camp Director.
They are responsible for managing the functions in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors of the YMCA.
This is a part-time seasonal position at Camp Kanata from June through August. They may work up to 35-40 hours/week. Some weekend hours may be required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Trimming and mowing grounds on a regular schedule as decided by the Camp Operations Director.
- Collecting and disposal of trash from all buildings and activities daily.
- Assist with the mowing and maintenance of fields and trails as needed.
- Perform all preventative maintenance required on equipment and assist with repairing all grounds maintenance equipment.
- Support team efforts in large operations such as fields, camp entryways, storm damage cleanup/repair, and other team activities.
- Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
- Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations. Maintain clear and concise communication within your area of responsibility.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience in related work preferred.
- Ability to operate maintenance and lawn equipment, and perform general maintenance including electrical, plumbing, and light carpentry.
- Ability to read and follow oral and written directions.
- Comfort with using applications on electronic devices.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups from various social and economic backgrounds.
- Positive attitude and enjoyment of working in a team-oriented environment are essential.
- Multilingual abilities are a plus but not required.
