This position is available in the following locations: GA-Atlanta, PA-Enola, PA-Conway, IN-Elkhart, IL-Chicago, TN-Chattanooga, IL-Decatur, OH-Bellevue, VA-Norfolk, AL-Birmingham, VA-Roanoke, PA-Altoona.

Job Responsibilities

Mechanical Supervisors effectively lead teams of 8-25 skilled laborers in constructing, repairing, and maintaining locomotives and rail cars. During training, you will learn to conduct inspections and repairs at the component level on locomotives and railcars, understand compliance standards of NS, the Association of American Railroads (AAR), and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). You will also participate in process improvement initiatives. After a six-month training program combining classroom and on-the-job supervisory training, you will be promoted to Mechanical Supervisor at a locomotive shop or freight car repair facility.

  • Ability to promote safety awareness and accident prevention
  • Willingness to relocate and work flexible hours as needed
  • Knowledge of engines and machinery maintenance
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn proprietary programs
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Willingness to learn new skills
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree
  • Preferred fields: Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or similar
Work Environment
  • Willing to relocate across the 22-state network
  • On-Call, Weekend, and Shift work required
  • Environment includes fieldwork and machine shop work
  • Travel up to 4 trips per year after training
