Role And Purpose

Work collaboratively with general education teachers to provide students with disabilities appropriate learning strategies, assistive technology, activities, and experiences to ensure access to grade level instruction and intervention to foster the educational, social, emotional, and functional success of students with disabilities receiving specialized services such as: Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE), pre-vocational/vocational adjustment, 18+, deaf education, and vision.

Qualifications
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor's degree in a directly related field
  • Valid Texas teacher certificate with required Special Education endorsement or required training for subject and level assigned
Experience:
  • One year of student teaching or approved internship
  • Training in behavior modification, preferred
Special Knowledge Or Skills:
  • Ability to work with children with more severe physical, mental, and emotional disabilities
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior using positive behavioral and intervention supports/strategies, and classroom management
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to effectively integrate assistive technology into the curriculum
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to be patient, flexible, and versatile
  • Ability to design and implement structured environments and activities
  • Ability to analyze behavioral functions and teach replacement behaviors
  • Ability to design and implement communication and work systems
Responsibilities and Duties
Instructional Management
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill district curriculum requirements and show evidence of preparation.
  • Implement instructional or skill development programs for assigned students and document accordingly.
  • Collaborate with administrators, team leaders, and general education teachers to deliver IEP services in the least restrictive environment.
  • Develop and monitor IEPs through ARD meetings with students, parents, and staff.
  • Use diverse instructional strategies and adapt activities to meet students' needs.
  • Monitor student progress and adjust services as needed.
  • Provide scaffolded instruction and accommodations for access to grade level curriculum.
  • Participate in collaborative teaching in inclusion settings.
  • Deliver targeted instruction for students requiring intensive intervention.
  • Attend ARD meetings regularly.
School Climate and Improvement
  • Model organizational beliefs and values.
  • Support high student achievement through effective duties.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, events, and committees.
  • Comply with ethical standards and district policies.
  • Maintain records and reports as required.
  • Engage in district and campus training and improvement initiatives.
Administration and Facilities
  • Operate relevant technology and maintain a clean classroom environment.
  • Follow policies and safety procedures.
Student Management
  • Interact professionally and de-escalate as needed.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans.
  • Assist with physical needs and assistive technology use.
  • Ensure safe transitions and personal care as per IEP.
Community Relations and Physical Demands
  • Maintain communication with stakeholders.
  • Meet physical requirements, including lifting and mobility tasks.
Professional Growth
  • Engage in ongoing professional development.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Supervise students and staff during various duties.
