Purpose Statement

The job of Senior Aerospace Science Instructor (SASI) manages the entire AFJROTC program. Responsibilities include classroom instruction, enrollment, fundraising, community relations, administrative tasks, student counseling, leadership mentoring, and involvement in extensive extracurricular activities.

Essential Functions
  • Community relations and liaison with Air Force and civilian aerospace agencies
  • Unit supply, funds administration, and other administrative duties
  • Career, performance, behavioral, leadership, character, and academic counseling
  • Enrollment activities
  • Coordination of extracurricular and co-curricular programs such as military ball, FTX, SLS, sports competitions, cadet newspaper, drill team, parades, awards, fundraising, and various clubs
  • Organization of Classroom in Action trips to sites like Pima Air and Space Museum, Luke AFB, and others
  • Teaching courses including Frontiers of Aviation History, Science of Flight, Space Exploration, World Cultural Studies, Survival, and Physical Training

Wearing the Air Force uniform during duties is mandatory. The role requires self-direction, initiative, and self-reliance, with some guidance from AFJROTCI 36-2001.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
  • Skills: Applying policies, operating office equipment
  • Knowledge: Basic math, reading manuals, following instructions
  • Abilities: Scheduling, data management, working with diverse individuals, problem-solving, maintaining confidentiality, meeting deadlines
Additional Information

Responsibilities include working under supervision, providing information, and utilizing resources. The physical demands involve some lifting and standing. Experience is preferred; a high school diploma or equivalent is required. Clearances such as criminal background checks are necessary.
