Job description

Purpose of Job

Provide leadership for the school’s entire athletic program through the ongoing development, implementation, and improvement of specific sports coached.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate specific sport with a full team in compliance with MSHSAA standards;
  2. Assist in implementing athletic standards as outlined in the MSHSAA Handbook and attend all MSHSAA required sessions;
  3. Assist in the coordination of the program;
  4. Assist in the supervision of students at practices and contests;
  5. Help provide information for transportation, facilities, officials, and game management;
  6. Help organize and schedule practice sessions regularly to develop the student-athlete’s potential;
  7. Emphasize safety precautions and be aware of best training and injury management procedures;
  8. Conduct team and self ethically during practices and contests, exemplifying high standards of sportsmanship;
  9. Assist in the systematic return of all school equipment in accordance with the KCMSD Athletic Department Handbook;
  10. Continue professional growth through clinics and publications;
  11. Must successfully complete the MSHSAA/NFHS Coaching Principles Course and Sports First Aid Courses;
  12. Fulfill 8 contact hours of professional development, including:
  • District-level meetings – 4 hours;
  • School-level meetings – 3 hours;
  • Outside meetings/clinics – 1 hour.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Must have a Teacher's Certificate, valid Substitute Certificate, or Temporary (provisional) Teacher’s Certificate.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Be a full or part-time employee in the District.
  • Employed in the school as a teacher or administrator in which the candidate applies for a position.
