Purpose of the Role

The Gifted Specialist at Mountain Trail Middle School will provide instruction to gifted students in grades 7 & 8 in Social Studies and Science, develop lesson plans, collaborate with staff, and communicate with parents regarding student progress. This role reports to the Site Administrator and the Director of Gifted Education.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction in Social Studies and Science for gifted students.
  • Support the goals of the Gifted Education Department.
  • Attend professional development and oversee gifted testing nominations.
  • Lead gifted cluster meetings and provide staff development.
  • Assess student progress and develop individual learning plans.
  • Communicate with parents and collaborate with staff and community resources.
  • Manage student behavior and ensure a safe, engaging learning environment.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum two years teaching gifted students (pull-out, cluster, or self-contained).
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
Certifications and Endorsements
  • Arizona Teacher Certificate
  • Arizona Gifted Endorsement
  • SEI Endorsement (Required)
  • Social Studies or Science Endorsement (Both Preferred)
Skills and Abilities

Proficiency in assessment, classroom management, lesson planning, and collaboration. Ability to work with diverse groups, adapt to changing priorities, and maintain confidentiality.

Work Environment
