ROLE AND PURPOSE:

  • The primary role of the Elementary Gifted and Talented Lead Teacher will be to work directly with students and teachers to provide GT services aligned with state, district and program requirements.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Texas Teacher's Certification/Bachelor's Degree; Texas Gifted and Talented Certification preferred
  • Initial 30 hours of Gifted/Talented training

Experience:

  • Four years of successful classroom experience teaching.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT

  • Possess a deep understanding of the characteristics of gifted and talented students and their influence on student learning.
  • Possess a broad knowledge of instructional strategies that address academic needs of gifted and talented and high achieving students.
  • Coordinate and deliver enrichment for gifted and talented students.
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure differentiated instruction that will encompass innovative and responsive learning experiences that promote and develop GT student potential in the general education classroom.
  • Model effective teaching strategies as the demonstration teacher for multiple grade levels.
  • Develop lessons within and across disciplines that teach strategies that nurture creative and critical thinking in gifted and talented students, with consideration for the cognitive, affective and physical development of each student.
  • Adapt the instructional environment to the differences of each gifted and talented student, including flexible grouping, choice, expression styles, and multiple modalities of learning.
  • Nurture the social and emotional development of gifted and talented students.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATION CLIMATE

  • Serve as a liaison between school faculty and staff and the Advanced Academics Department.
  • Employ organizational and time-management skills to effectively serve more than one campus.

SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT

  • Participate in campus Professional Learning Communities to assist teachers in appropriately meeting the needs of gifted and talented students.
  • Provide campus and districtwide professional learning focused on the identification and needs of gifted and talented students and the delivery of differentiated instruction for GT and high ability students.
  • Monitor faculty and staff compliance with GT professional learning requirements.
  • Inform faculty and staff of Professional Learning opportunities.

ADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL/FACILITIES MANAGEMENT

STUDENT MANAGEMENT

  • Create and maintain GT records in Cum Folders for each student assessed for GT serves, including transfer students.
  • Utilize data to determine appropriate placement, instructional needs, and academic activities and supports for identified students.
  • Coordinate the assessment and identification of students for Gifted and Talented services.
  • Monitor student progress and ensure appropriately differentiated responses.

SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS

  • Facilitate and promote parental and community engagement through on-going communications, e.g., meetings, conferences, print materials, student showcases, and family awareness activities.
  • Provide teachers with written documentation of students admitted for GT services, including transfer students.
  • Meet all state, district and campus deadlines related to gifted and talented students and services.
  • Assist faculty and staff with responses to parent and community inquiries.

PROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT

  • Attend GT Lead Teacher district meetings.
  • Attend required training for Gifted and Talented Lead Teachers.
  • Ensure personal awareness of current district, state and federal guidelines regarding gifted and talented education.

MISCELLANEOUS

  • Performs other duties as assigned
